too bad Mirk isnt athletic enough to play high major ball.....
sry, I cant help the sarcasm sometimes. I've been very pro Mirk since seeing him play in Nike Hoop Summit last year and he has wildly surpassed any real expectation I have had of him. one of the best comments of the broadcast last night was "he doesn't play like he's 18. no, he plays like he's 40" :ROFLMAO:

we just beat #11 without starters available, one of our best players playing his 2nd game with minimal practice in 2 months, and starting 2 freshmen in their 3 collegiate game....this team is fun to watch and will win a lot of games, i think

He never woulda survived in the early 2000's when the Illiniboard lusted after Ron Turner's "cord girl" during the football games. She was the one that helped keep the headset cord untangled back in the dark ages before wireless technology. She was a cutie that the board was unanimously quite fond of.
I remember that lol and yeah I was just having fun last night. Huge win and that girl is just a really fun-spirited fan, was enjoyable to see her live she was ripping it up last night as well. And I just don’t spend my time policing on others posts it’s America after all. 🇺🇸 Go Illini! 🔥🏆

"Arguably the most talented roster in the country."

I'm not sure why this notion sounds as crazy to some. Once everyone returns, we'll have a 9 deep of: Kylan, Wagler, Stoj, Mirk, Ivisic, Ivisic, Petro, Rodgers, Ben.

"Arguably the most talented roster in the country" is not that big of a stretch. Especially offensively.

A few random thoughts:
1) I'm not sure when (if ever) the Illini beat a top-15 team without making a 3-pointer in the second half. Shows what a difficult matchup Illinois is offensively and how versatile the offense can be.
2) They also are so versatile on defense that they can make the opponent go to Options B, C and D during the flow of the game...even when it looked like Toppin might just win the game single-handedly.
3) I loved the discipline of the defense not fouling. Looked to be the game plan for anyone other than Z not to try and block his shot when he attacked the rim. TT, on the other hand, gave the Illini some and-1 opportunities.
3) Ben came up big on the boards and defensively. He looks stronger...and played stronger.
4) I used to think if the Illini were hot (or even warm) from 3, they could play with anybody. When they were hot at Oregon and against Arkansas, they looked as good as any team last year. But last night -- with Stojakovich showing his abilities at both ends of the floor -- convinced me that the floor of this team is much higher than I thought.
5) The Illini are so much fun to watch. They are kind of like the box of chocolates in Forrest Gump.
Good stuff and I’ll add one more random observation - to me it appears Keaton is already 6’6”, possibly pushing 6’7”. He’s eye to eye with Dre already...

That position is called, 'cable page'.

I don’t want to dismiss Texas Tech as anything other than a really really good team, but I have to wonder if paying Toppin that much money has created shortcomings elsewhere in their lineup that might prevent them from becoming a really great team. Toppin was nearly unstoppable last night — nearly. Once we put Bam on him and threw a double team at him we were able to take control.

They lost Darrion Williams to the portal. Was likely a situation of you essentially can't keep both.

Anderson and watts could both be all conference. Their center who didn't play is one of the best shot blockers in the nation. They'll be fine.

Look I was trying to be light about it. In my opinion whatever your intention the jokes came across as creepy and over the top. As a married man myself with a daughter it made me uncomfortable. Seems others agree. You can take the feedback or leave it, just sharing my thoughts.
I have always tried to take the posting approach of "if my wife sees what I have posted, would it get me in trouble". It has worked well so far.

You know she was memorable. It's been 24 years since the 01 season & we all remember her fondly. And note I didn't say fondley. LOL!

Free Throw Attempts:

Illinois - 23
Texas Tech - 4

That’s a homer job. Gotta call it like I see it but we’ll take it.
Not at all from what I observed. Two things happened- 1) we did a remarkable job of contesting vertically and not reaching and letting the player go once beaten. 2) TT cleared space really well so we weren’t in a position to foul.

I was complaining that the space clearing techniques could have been called fouls on TT.

Overall, this team has not fouled much. European influence perhaps?

This has to be a "since 2000" list or some other qualifier. We played Kentucky at home in the 83-84 season. They had to be ranked at the time as we rematched in the regional final. The infamous Robbery at Rupp Arena.

Also, off top of my head, I think Ga Tech was a top 25 team in 89 when we beat them to become #1. Prior to then, it wouldn't surprise if there weren't very many as the non conference used to not have as many high profile matchups as the modern era.
KY was either #1 or #2. I think LSU was ranked when we played them in '90. UConn in '92.
