Exhibition schmexhibition.........................That was a regular season played game and we just beat the # 1 team in CBB............Deon just said this was a measuring stick for the Illini and we measured up great !!!!!!!!!

Just saw glimpses of what BU and staff will do when the game is in the latter stages and close.......We had a lot of veteran's on the court with one thing on their mind.....TO WIN THE GAME !!!!

That pile up late in the game , I know , had BU and staff smiling big time...........

Poor lil huntie baby ......Can't win for losing , transferring away from scUM and still can't win against the Fighting Illini......

He also showed that no matter where you go , your true personality stills shows up.......Better officials would have called him for thuggery against Dain and kicked his arse out of the game.......but that's another storyline........

Two can play at that game. I think KJ Adams had like 8 fouls, and he was the one primarily burning us in the lane in the 2nd half
And mccular as well. Adams and him combined for 12 foulls and 40 pts

more than half of their production came from foul troubled/wouldve been fouled out guys

Other than Luke having a kind of rough game and, a 4 possession stretch about the 6-minute mark of second half, the Beloved looked really, really good. Love these guys team first mentality, and not a collection of 5 guys all looking to get theirs.

My random thoughts šŸ“

I think we take away from this game that right now we are older and more experienced. The team didnā€™t look totally lost even when we had some scoring spells in the 2nd half. Last year would had been all hero ball and then ???

I think the ball movement can get even better as we grow as a team. I think we shared it well but not nearly as well as we will in March.

Without Dain in at times we seemed we couldnā€™t punish the post. But Iā€™ll take that as the ā€œHunter Dickinsonā€ factor of tonight.

Better outside shooting!

Kinda wish you could get more tick for Dain,Sencire, Goode who have all been so loyal. But, I guess you play who you feel most confident in.

We beat the #1 team in the country!!! Exhibition or not, you know both these teams treated it like a real game, or at least dress rehearsal. Just the fact we won will get our stock ticking up in media and fans nationwide . Iā€™m so excited for this year .

I liked that both coaches played it for reals. Kansas had 6 guys double digit minutes, and limited minutes to others. We had 9 with 8 or more minutes.
Right, and we had a guy who, normally, would have fouled out, but continued to play, and they had two such guys.

I love that we won, but that game was very similar to last year. If we made threes, we won. If we didn't, we lost. We got dominated inside and made threes and free throws (not well) to make up for it. I like all the options and depth, but I would like to see us getting to the rim more to hit the high percentage shots. Leaning on 41% shooting from three isn't going to cut it. I hope we can do more 8nside.

Takeaways from the exhibition:

- May have been an exhibition but both teams mostly played like it was for real. Maybe 5 minutes of scrub gametime overall, but the majority of the game was tight and meaningful.
- Illinois may hang around the top 25 all year long. Should be better than #25.
- Foul outs are stupid, and every game should be played without them. Have the best players in the game to close it out, rather than encouraging teams to go at one player in foul trouble. Only sport where playing the game normally results in an ejection from the game.

Great win vs. a high-quality opponent.

Positives:
- Deep bench
- Tons of experience
- Domask seems to be the clear-cut #3 behind TSJ and Coleman

Other Observations:
- Mega-experienced club on the court with game on the line (TSJ, CH, Domask, QG and J. Harmon)
- The two Freshmen and Moretti got token minutes only --- at end of 1st Half (This meant we utilized a 9-man rotation)
- Sencire Harris and Luke Goode seem to be pushed down the bench more than I had anticipated
- Dain and Ty got no tick at the end when FT shooting was crucial to the outcome
- Ty started and looked pretty decent --- but shot nothing but layups
- Domask was the defacto PG in the last two minutes, bringing the ball up court against KU's full-court pressure
Ty's layups were great. I loved it when CH passed on 3s and drove instead. That will keep defenders off him and give him the wide-open looks where he shoots the best and plenty of dunks, which are always the highest pts per shot, percentagewise.

I agree with this.

Seems that we still rely on the 3-pt shot a little too much. And Coleman and TSJ aren't going to hit them at a 50% clip all year long. In fact, Self pretty much said as much in his post-game presser.
