Malcolm was awesome, but I was most excited by MM and DJW.
MM shot another high percentage night and DJW showed hustle and a great variety of little contributions. Good for the future.

We did what we were supposed to do, and we managed to do it with some style, too!

Would have liked to see the intensity level a little higher in the second half but all in all a solid win. I-L-L-

Yeah! We won a game at home. Last 10 minutes of the 1st half great! 2nd half not so much. Our defense went to sleep again.

I know we aren't very good but we have no killer instinct. That second half was just dreadful with all the standing around.

Agree here. Need to develop the urgency to continue diving for loose balls with a 20 point lead as if it was a one point lead.

In a season where we are struggling in the B1G, killer instinct is probably not the most pertinent discussion to be having.

Let's take this W and enjoy it.

Nice to see a win where we are not sweating bullets near the end. Having Mav and DJW come along is a nice development for this team. Malcolm as usual was stellar. It wasn't always pretty but this team is improving. Better ball movement, rebounding, and assists are three things I can point to that show this team is coming together. Some of the assist combinations with Mav and working the ball with multiple passes for open shots make me think they really do know how to play as a team. If they can keep working hard and keep improving, it should result in a few more wins down the road.

We win!!

I enjoyed it. Will Mav be our starting center next season? He's really improved. I'd like to see him improve his catching ability in transition

I would be beyond thrilled if we went on a little run here and made it over .500 and somehow got an NIT bid. I know it's not the right perspective to have, but I'd still love to see it.

1. Whitman hasn't even been announced officially as AD, and already we are putting major beatdowns on opponents. I smell major turnaround!

2. It's all about the little things, like scheduling. If we could have played Rutgers 10 more times this season, we could have been a contender, we could have been somebody!

3. I can't believe Rutgers fell for Malcolm's patented "I have a bad hammy, go easy on me." routine. Get 'em on their heels, and then let 'em have it, Malcolm. Way to go. So smooth, so sneaky!

4. OK, all you Mav doubters, is he da man or what!? He really has improved far more than I expected, that's for sure. He is so much quicker and more agile. You wanna dunk on me? YOU wanna dunk on ME? Not in my house fella!

5. Kendrick had a solid game for him, or a really good game for most other players. The combo of Kendrick and Malcolm really is something. It's too bad this group has been so hobbled for much of the season, so our dynamic duo doesn't usually get much help.

6. JCL can shoot. When you see him put one up, you understand why he is going to be the all-time three-point leader as a freshman at Illinois at this rate. He is going to be fun to watch as the rest of his game comes around.

7. DJW continues to look better and better. He only took two shots, but he ended up with 8 points and 5 rebounds. I think he is really going to be something special over the coming seasons.

8. Khalid Lewis doesn't get a lot of kudos around here, but he showed some spark tonight. He and Mav showed off some nice passing at times, and I really liked the bounce pass to Mav (who caught it) on his cut to the hoop.

9. Well, all we have to do is keep this up. How hard can that be?

Go Illini!

Also, If DJW is a player...we're all of a sudden in much better shape next year.

Just an observation from me...IF Rutgers had Sanders play tonight, this game could've been a lot closer IMO. I have to give Sanders credit, because he is very good for a freshman, probably Big Ten Freshman of the Year. I heard tidbits of the game and was impressed with the win tonight, as IL will take any win at this point. Scarlet Knights are a completely different team without him and that was very noticeable.

Sanders is very good, but I would hope that our conference's freshman of the year would not be someone who is suspended for two weeks for disciplinary reasons. I would think that there would be a better choice to represent the conference. A true FOY wouldn't leave his team hanging for two weeks. JMO
