More bad than good.

But if you're looking to turn this game into a positive, you could say that for the 15 minutes Illinois was engaged in this game, they mopped the floor with them.

Otherwise, not good.

Pretty lame. Great stretch in the early second half, otherwise same old Illinois bball.

They got a little lax with the big lead. I do like that Groce had them play the last few minutes without Hill or Abrams. It is a good learning experience.

To be fair, good teams fairly regularly lose in exhibitions. I recall Kentucky and Michigan State losing recently, so winning close isn't necessarily a bad sign. Positive spin!

You could see the rust early. When they got into a grove and wasn't mass subbing as much they played some good basketball. They then let their foot of the gas and let Washington U back in it and played just bad and sloppy basketball. Have to play and bring the energy for 40 minutes. They will work and get better. Lots of teaching moments in this game. Its an exhibition so they were working on things and getting back into the grove. Excited for the next game

eh...not too worried about this. I think at one point, Groce had a lineup of Tate, TA, Mav, Thorne, and somebody else

Probably just the kind of game a coach wants in an exhibition. Pretty sure none of the kids' minds will be wandering in practice this week. Nobody gets much of anything out of a 100 to 50 stomping except exercise.

JG did use different lineups the entire second half. However that did not appear to be reason for swoon. Mainly bonehead plays, surprisingly from our seemingly high basketball IQ guys, Malcolm and finke. Malcolm with a technical and basically didn't see him for rest of second half. Finke with more then one bad (Just plain bad) passes.

First part of second half and I'm assuming most of the first half (I missed first half) We appeared to get out and run and we were just killin' em. When we stopped they made the run. JG used Tejon for alot of the last part of the second half and I liked what I saw from him. Yes he is a freshman and he will make freshman mistakes but he also was getting after it on D and he was making things happen on offense. I think the bigs need to get used to his passes cause he puts them in there for them. They have some heat on them but they are there. I think there was 3 times he dropped dimes for the big guys right under the basket and they were not able to hold on to ball.

Defense was porous. and I mean olay type d midway through the second half and it didn't shore up. I'm most concerned with that. Fouling is another thing as Thorne fouled out and Morgan had 4. With black and kip on bench we are still shallow on bigs. I thought DJW did a great job and Aaron came to play. I liked Abrams but he was timid to me. I still do not like Tates game. I was unimpressed with how he handled team second half.
JCL was awesome and had some great baskets. Finke got schooled last 4 minutes on D. Maverick was best offense as he had 20+ I believe game high. Tejon went 4 of 6 from Free throw line last 4 of game. He handled pressure just fine. Needs to make sure that he gives guys throwing inbounds a open target at end of game. Out of what I saw for positions in question. Abrams, tejon, tate rotation for point guard. Maverick, Thorne rotation for bigs.

Again one game, exhibition at that but should have put this team away and had 100 plus points. Dissappointed in that showing but i'm all about the year its a marathon not a sprint so looking forward to next game. :):clappy::):shield:

Not as big a margin as I would have thought, but I guess a W is a W.

Can't wait to watch this group!

That was such a disappointing game. We looked slow and had no athleticism. I was very disappointed in DJW, AJ, and Finke. I have high hopes for them and they just played bad ball especially on defense. Very disappointed in how our bigs used their hands to get rebounds instead of body and positioning. That will not do work in the big ten.

I expected us to be ready to go since we have such an old team but nope. We looked lost.

Folks don't get to worked up. He left Lucas, Thorne, DJ and Jordan, who are pretty rusty play most of that late 2nd half run. I will agree it was sloppy but Groce was trying to get some guys experience.

Looked to be hanging on the rim and maybe some unnecessary theatrics afterwards.

Very unlike him; I'm sure we'll not see that much.
