Guessing on the actual # of minutes. More of what it felt like.

Lesser "impact" tonight.
Underwood’s kid got 7-10 minutes. Handled the ball some. No mistakes.

Samson O. maybe 5 minutes. A little wild, tonight.

Jones played maybe 7-10, but really didn't touch the ball much on offense. Team didn't look for him, which forced him to try and do a little too much when he touched it. Probably my largest first-game disappointment. I trust he is going to be a player.

Samba got, maybe, 7-10. Still a little "fish out of water". Tentative. Doesn't feel 7 ft. tall just yet. Doesn't feel 6'9".

More impact in similar time.
Griffin 10+ and in that limited time, had a fair amount of impact. Drilled his only 3. Had an unassisted steal followed by a great pass and bucket for the assist, early, and another nice assist on a break, late. Played point on Press D. Looked comfortable on the floor out of the gates.) . One of the most pleasant surprises.

Kipper played 'fine', overall. Rebounded well. Blended, mostly. Non-factor, simply because he went roughly 1-10 from the field. Mid range tweeneers and around the rim, was just off. Discarding this game, personally.

AJ - played "fine" in the first half. Hit a 3. Blended. Played much bigger and better in the 2nd half and was a calming presence down the stretch. Expect him on the floor, a lot. Plus

Georgi - What can you say. Hit 2 3's. Softer touch from 22' than from 3' tonight. It's tough because, as a team, we literally do not look inside. It's a PROBLEM. And one that will either get addressed, or we will lose games we should win. He is a leader. Is serious... seriously serious, once the game begins. Personally, I love the kid, and he will be a 4 year player, if he continues to improve.

Damonte playing a great overall first half, in limited time. Tremendous defensively, rebounding... didn't take many shots, but continues to be effective and disruptive on the defensive end. He will play a lot.

Ayo likely played the most of anyone. Definitely still getting his legs, but the staff seems committed to letting him do so (obviously). He had a few plays, early... finished a few layups. Also seemed to be a bit "sped up" at times, causing some mistakes. Part of it is... a great passer, needs great receivers, and right now, the only receivers in this offense, are also on the perimeter, which is NOT where a great passer shines. Great passers need transition... but they also need an inside option. I beg that that shows up in one of these players, soon. Not there yet... hit a garbage 3 down the stretch, which I was happy to see. He'll be a defensive force, regardless.

And that takes us to the player of the night.
Feliz - This kid played smart, controlled, aggressive, competent basketball, for the entirety of his time on the floor.
He has body control around the rim... (where every one of his 20 pts came). He finished very well, for being the smallest guy on the floor... but he plays big. Maybe he has long arms... I don't know, but he is a player, and can play in the B1G, if tonight is any indication.

All in all... LOTS of rotating players, which impacts flow offensively and defensively.
We are still out of position a LOT on defense. Very aggressive, but if we give this many wide open 3's in league play, again... we will lose games we shouldn't.

We are not (yet) a team where guys are just always in the right place, which we haven't been for a few years, and if we could be, it makes up for a lot of things... but all in all, with all of the new faces... a good night of basketball.

Quick reaction to game:
Andres and Trent looked really good. That's the experience showing. Ayo and Aaron Jordan also had solid games and Georgi played well.
Shooting percentage was disappointing, 43.8% vs. 48.1% for Wesleyan.
Rebounding still a big issue. They outrebounded us 34-30. Aaron Jordan, a guard, led us in rebounds. We need more from our bigs.
Speaking of needing more from our bigs, 1 for 10 shooting from Kipper was a big disappointment. Underwood said he isn't worried about Kipper's shooting, he's concerned about him only having 4 rebounds. That too.
For the next game: I really want to see more minutes for Alan Griffin. He was second in assists for us and only played 10 minutes. Also made his only shot of the night, so his shooting percentage was 100% on only one attempt. Underwood called him an elite shooter in the postgame interview, so I want to see him get more chances.

So I’ve been listening all night. Here’s what it sounds like, would love those watching to correct where needed:
1. Trent is Trent. #1 alpha dog and deserves to be
2. Feliz can create scoring. Clearly second best offensive player. Defense too?
3. Ayo - not a loud debut but announcers have done some gushing on how smooth he is. Probably a starter, but not the star so far
4. AJ - solid as we knew he would be. My gut says he ends up being the leader oof the bench with minutes on par with any starter
5. Kipper - 1 for 10 start on shooting with at least one missed bunny. Concerning given his existing consistency issues.
6. Georgie- hype was real, dude gets it a lot more than we ever could’ve expected from a #300+ true freshman. That said, fouling will be an issue that could keep his minutes under 20

Other: Griffin can shoot, Kane is raw, TUnderwood getting rewarded for his sit out year with some exhibition minutes

What did I get wrong?
(Edit: Tevian with Kane in the “raw” sept)

Trent can stroke it and is confident about. Thought he could of passed it a bit more, but he kept draining them. Seems an inch taller.

Feliz is big frame, almost looks like Ayo out there. Fundamentally strong, can shoot and drive. Will get to the line.

Ayo, big frame and played like a PG out there. So smooth and smart player. With Trent, Feliz, Ayo we have 3 PG types in the game.

Damonte, Jack of all trades. Will play behind Feliz this year. Didn't look much for his shot. Played D and rebounded.

AJ, frame got bigger so did his confidence. Wasn't trying to get his scoring going, seemed to play the team concept.

Kipper had missed shots, not concerned. More concerned about him playing the 4, may seem left out due to strong guard play.

Georgie going to be very good, further ahead than Mav, more confident, better stroke, more fluid.

Tevian and Griffith, limited minutes. Tools are there two solid pick-ups. Griff can shoot and nice size. Tevian good length and physical tools. Probably one year early, next year likely big leap of progress.

Very impressed with this recruiting class. Samba hopefully sticks around, has potential to be good and a pairing of Georgi and Samba would be really good. As juniors Ayo, Griff, Tev, Georgi, and Samba could be special.

But AG played earlier than that, right? That deny-steal-between the legs-fluid left handed bounce pass to the cutting Ayo play was sweeeet.
Griffin/Griffith. Alan Griffin played earlier and well. Griffith (local kid) was the late entry.

And yes, it was sweeeet.

This will be a tournament team. There are pieces here that are good enough, including our coach.

Other thing I commented on in the game thread but Adonis was standing and communicating the whole game at the end of the bench. We've already seen him be a mentor and leader but this was nice to see it in action. If he's not a coach down the road I'll be shocked.

Watched the game and this is a fairly good summation of what I saw. The guards as expected are good but depth inside is just not there right now. We need a healthy Adonis. Maui will be rough.

Underwood: It's kinda what we play this for... Lot of firsts. Give credit to Illinois Wesleyan, they made shots. But most of them were philosophical breakdowns on our end.

Got to get these freshmen to think more about the defensive end.

Underwood: We let up guarding the basketball. Plain and simple. We can't do that. We've got to start guarding better.

Underwood: Giorgi is gonna be a really, really good player. I'm his biggest fan. He needs to be on the court more than 14 minutes.

Underwood: Giorgi is as good a ball-screen defender as I've coached. And offensively, he's a weapon. We're a better team, defensively especially, when he's on the court.

Underwood: For a lot of our freshmen right now, the game is sped up. But it's not for Andres.

Underwood: The offense has to be run with speed. We're slow cutting. We run it better when Giorgi is in there.

Underwood: We've got to continue to learn to be a 40-minute team. We've fought that a little bit in practice.

Underwood: The biggest thing with Tev is getting things to slow down. He watches a ton of film. At some point, the game will slow down. He works at it. His time is coming. You don't rush that with young guys.

When the game slows down for him, we'll see him play freer.

I like the new stats page. You can sort the individual stats however you like. What stands out to me is the efficiency and usage %. Our 2 highest usage guys (Trent and Feliz) were also our most efficient. You're going to win a good amount of ball games when that happens.

I'm trying not to overreact to an exhibition. But we might have 3 of the top 5-6 PG's in the B1G.

And Giorgi not Georgi. C’mon people you should know how to spell your team’s players’ names. I think this bugs me ‘cause people always misspelled my name. Similar situation, one letter difference

We finally have a player that every other team wants to punch in the face!!!!!!
I may be oversimplifying things, but if you view Giorgi as a sort of "replacement" for Finke, say, then one could view the difference between them in terms of temperment, attitude, etc., as a clear case of "BU getting his kind of guys" on the roster. And I like it.

(EDIT: "Giorgi." Sorry jmilt7.)

Good summaries, folks. Only observation that I have to add that wasn't already mentioned - Tev did look rough but he hit his 3 free throws when fouled on an attempted 3. Small victory, but hopefully a sign that he's a clutch free throw shooter with a lot more potential.
