Some good ones around the country. Boozer at Duke, Peat at Arizona, Sarr at BYU....but none have had a game like Mirk tonight. Too small of a sample to make in categorical statements about it. I love having Mirk on this team, but will withhold any such hyperbole until I see him play against Morez or a team that wants to shut him down. That will happen, and then we shall see how he responds and finds all the little and unnoticed ways to help this team win. He does not have to lead in any category every night, other than never taking a night off on either end with his effort to win.

But he may be the most productive player in the nation per dollar. There is a significant probability that someone will offer him 4-6 million to come play for them next year....and it will not likely be the Illini.

Yep...some pretty great Illini players had the opportunity to do it against some pretty weak buy games....but no one did it in 53 years. And Colgate is real competition, but not Purdue.

What the eff ESPN? Halftime show of ASU and Zags and they are showing highlights from tonight’s games highlighting the freshmen who are excelling. Showed Peat, Boozer, Wilson…..but no mention of Mirk and even Wagler? I know they are biased, but this is pure idiocy. Not even acknowledging a 20/20 as a freshman is criminal. What a joke ESPN has become.

Coach said in the postgame that he had been all over Mirk about his rebounding against Texas Tech

Mirk:
Take It Personally Michael Jordan GIF
"He just gets angry at me, and screams and cusses in Serbian, and then I scream at him some more, he's just a competitor, a really good competitor and it's all in a really good way" is maybe one of the most hilarious coach quotes about a player.

History was made tonight......................

Spoon did it 53 years ago......................
Mirko-Man did it tonight...................

what was it they did ?..........they both had a 20/20 game of at least 20 pts and 20 rebs........Mirko-Man had 27 pts and 21 rebs...

It was a lunch pail workman's like performance with the Illini never reaching 40 % FG shooting level.........it was a kind of ho-hum game with colgate hanging around for awhile , but we turned it on when we needed to and maintained a 11-15 pt lead for the majority of the second half......

Wags is one smooth hombre getting either 19 or 20 pts with a bushel basket of rebs especially offensive rebs......

BU just said Z had some swelling in one of his knees but nothing to worry about......... I think it was a understandable trappish type game playing against a slower paced team offensively playing a zone D against us and our first time seeing extended zone play.......

I don't know how anyone could be upset at this game. We didn't shoot it very well...maybe the first extended look at a good zone defense this year.
I'm not worried at all.

We just watched a historic performance from David Mirkovic. Not good. Not great. Historic.

That was special.

Oh yeah we won by 20. Lol.
What makes it even more impressive is so many of those rebounds were through traffic. Only a few where he was there to get a ball when the shooting team was already getting back on defense. Kid is so good at positioning. And if you watch, his hands follow the ball on each shot and his hands go to where the ball is.. almost always is the first guy near the ball on shots. Elite player.

Love the fact Davhid smiles, laughs, and then curses at coach. Comparing his attitude to Ayo is awesome. I would love to see this team play in 1-3-1, with Keaton at top, Davhid at 5, Bam and Andrei at 2 and 4. Tomi or Z at 3. I believe with that quickness and length we'd create at least 10 turnovers. Just a change up from time to time. If we ever get healthy we're looking at 10 possibly 11 high quality men being able to play. Seems like coach is really enjoying coaching these men and they cheer and have each other's back. That win titles.

Lots of things, thoughts, and instinct go into rebounding. There is a gift that a few have, a genius with which they are born, that allows some to just be able to anticipate where the ball will most likely come off the rim....but of course that rim is round, as is the ball, and it is not foolproof. The biggest problem for a frosh is to be comfortable with focusing all his attention and effort, combining that with "the ball is mine" attitude, and grabbing the ball in situations he never thought he could. By the time they are seniors, it is second nature....but it takes a while.

The toughest boards to grab are what I call "nuclear rebounds". That is when the ball bounces in the middle where 4 or 5 bigs are all able to get their hands on the ball, but securing it to the floor and getting it to a your guard is also difficult. Lot of "want to" involved and willingness to take a hit or two.

Got to point out that every zone defense is vulnerable by being attacked inside as quickly and as early in the shot clock as is possible. The Illini never seem to do this nearly as much as required to be successful. They also have the perfect fit for this action.....Andrej Stoyakovic. Wagler would also be a good candidate. They either set up at the FT line or flash to the paint. Shooters come open due to sagging to cover AS. If they don't, Stojakovic might score 50. Passing it around the perimeter until the clock runs out is foolhardy. Driving can work, but can be pinched easily by good teams and stopped. All effort and focus should be to get the ball in the lane to Stoja quickly on every possession.

This morning on their Men's BB homepage, Mirk's performance is still not "worthy".

Intriguing. Absolutely love those shoes, but I thought the NCAA standing policy was our school and athletes aren't allowed to any way to exhibit the Chief or they'd enforce postseason bans/hosting events on us. Did they relax the ruling? Or was this an oversight? It would be so NCAA to ban us from the tournament for something like this. Fantastic looking kicks though.

Same old same old. They will have to keep up these performances for a while and against some of our tougher opponents before ESimPN will talk about us. There is a reason they talk about the cowboys 24/7 no matter how bad they are

Par for the course from the joke that is espn. Duke, Kansas, Mich St, UNC. They have all their bases covered. No need for just a little attention to be paid to anyone else. Again, they are a joke.

Where can we buy these?
