Hilariously, despite only committing 9 fouls as a team tonight, Tomi fouled out, marking only the second Illini to foul out of a game this season (Keaton vs Alabama). The key to the defense is not fouling, so overall, huge success.
I attribute it to boredom.

In the stretches where Wagler was out, it was evident how much the team missed Boswell.

Fingers crossed Wagler continues to stay out of foul trouble between now and Boswell's return!
Don't jinx it, but this is the biggest break we've had. The lack of foul trouble hasn't required Brad to buy minutes. That's always been my concern. Boswell coming back sooner rather than later would be ideal. It would be nice to have a timeline other than "we'll get Keaton back at some point", but Brad's not a doctor nor a trainer, so I can understand his hesitation providing a goal.

Torvik throttles once a team hits the magical "SAFE LEAD REACHED" threshold (basically a point in which a game has a margin large enough that it's never been overcome with that amount of time left).

Last night's *SAFE LEAD REACHED* point was surprisingly not the Keaton half court buzzer beater, but a Jake Davis 3 at the 10 minute mark to make it 68-30. EDIT: Actually Davis missed that 3 and Andrej ended up making a 2 to make it 70-30, but just getting to the 10 minute mark with the 38 point lead was enough to call it.
BartTorvik will never declare *SAFE LEAD REACHED* until there is 10 minutes left.

As the horn sounded Brian Barnhart said " This team is scary good ".................I concur with that statement...I really really do...

A 40 point conference win in a P 5 league is an arse kickin of epic proportions.............we have so many weapons on both offense and defense that I believe our ceiling continues to rise with every game played.................

season record : 20-3
B$G record : 11-1

not feeling well tonight so gonna wrap this up early....................On the road to msu and the thugs @ Breslin..................

LET'S GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!

Feel better Pru. No Taylor means you’re not feeling well at all. Sending positive energy your way bro.

Look at how Keaton comes down when he catches that ball. Inches away from a bad ankle sprain if he lands on the guy's foot.

In a 40 point game (literally), would've preferred to have Petro in there.

That would be an interesting and surprising change from Kenpom if so. And I'd question the why unless he found it showed better correlation... Definitely would be a departure from back when I worked with it. It's been a long long time now though, so perhaps.
Sorry if this was noted but Torvik also discounts games after a certain time period. I think it's something like: any game that was played over 40 days ago is discounted and it gets further discounted over time (decays is his terminology) until a critical point (maybe 80 days?) at which he just sends it over the cliff and completely non-factors it. Pretty cool concept; not sure if KenPom does this.

Under almost any other circumstance, I agree. But the NW player was jawing at him on a couple of previous plays and he was the same one that whacked Andrej for the F1. Also, if you watch the play, Tomi does say something right away, but the NW player jaws right back, which is why Tomi didn't just turn away.
Sure, the guy smacked Andrej after that incident.

Her name is Sheila Johnson. She’s UI graduate and a very successful businesswoman. She’s part owner of the Washington Wizards, Mystics and Capitals. She founded BET with her husband back in the 70’s.
Thank you!!!!

I heard something about the wizards owner and was perplexed why Ted Leonsis, a Georgetown alum and someone with seemingly zero Illinois ties, would be at the game. Sheila Johnson makes way more sense.

It’s truly amazing how winning changes perception and willingness to embrace a program. Glad to see influential individuals like her and Geis being more prominent around athletics.

Agree, but better to learn from that in a blowout win - it will make it less likely he jaws at an opponent after a dunk in a closer game.

I did see it looked like they apologized to each other in the handshake line - the Northwestern player initiated it, which was good to see.
That's good to hear.

I thought it's been said multiple times that he is expected back by mid February? Could be wrong, though. Not sure you are ever gonna get any more specific of a timeline than that.

The 247 guys (on their podcast, not behind paywall) said they expect him back before the trip out West (obviously, things can change).

Did Northwestern send their JV team by mistake. 44 points?

EvanMiya tracks "Kill Shots" (double digit / 10-0 runs)

Saint Louis actually leads the country in Kill Shots per game at 1.41

We had 4 last night along with a 5th run of 8-0 (so nearly had five in a single game)

We had a 33-4 run in the first half (from being down 7-5 to being up 38-11) in a 9 1/2 minute span from 15:19 to 5:51
