Sure, the guy smacked Andrej after that incident.
But he was an angel prior to that moment? I was just noting that he was being an instigator and continued to be so. In general, I do agree with you that I would rather we did not engage in that sort of thing.

Kendall Gill was in the house for the game. Would have been nice to get a comment or two out of him about this year's team and how his son is doing at NW.

We better get our check book ready for BigZ. He is going to be able to cash in after this season. He should, he'll never play at next level. I have been so impressed with his season and what he brings to the lockeroom. He's the glue that helps teams win a National Title!

Honestly I think that’s probably a tough position. Personally, him not commenting at all feels like the most mature option.

Glad he was there and honestly glad phoenix got in the game. Gotta be one of the best feelings as a father.

Had to be uncomfortable for him listening to the Krush yell AIR BALL after Phoenix missed everything on a 3. It was uncomfortable for me 500 miles away on my couch

Under almost any other circumstance, I agree. But the NW player was jawing at him on a couple of previous plays and he was the same one that whacked Andrej for the F1. Also, if you watch the play, Tomi does say something right away, but the NW player jaws right back, which is why Tomi didn't just turn away.
Collins knew his player had been instigating things for a while that is why he sat him down and didn't put him back in.

EvanMiya tracks "Kill Shots" (double digit / 10-0 runs)

Saint Louis actually leads the country in Kill Shots per game at 1.41

We had 4 last night along with a 5th run of 8-0 (so nearly had five in a single game)

We had a 33-4 run in the first half (from being down 7-5 to being up 38-11) in a 9 1/2 minute span from 15:19 to 5:51
Last night aside, it doesn’t feel like we get many — if any — kill shots in most games. Rather we get a series of 5-7 point “coma shots” that slowly and methodically put our opponents out of their misery.

Thinking about it more, the absolute best thing about this game is it puts on tape that doubling Keaton absolutely does not work, which is going to get Keaton more open looks going forward.
Eh, it did force other guys to beat them, we were just white-hot from 3.

If I were an opposing coach, I'd be of the view that being pretty aggressive about blitzing/trapping Wagler ball screens is probably the right idea.

If you do that you are going to force Illinois into a lot of pinging the ball around the perimeter between guys who aren't huge dribble-drive threats. We're excellent at that and will get a bunch of looks from 3 and might bury you, but also might go a bit cold, and then you've got a chance to beat us.

Really good teams are always a pick your poison situation, and I'll let Humrichous and the Ivisic twins launching 3's be what beats me over dealing with Wagler orchestrating on the ball.

I didn’t it’s big boy basketball and if you shoot a airball the fans give it to you

The last couple of games the other teams are playing strong man to man in Keaton's face. That leaves someone open and we saw what we can do when Keaton gets man handled. I assume that Izzo will send the pit bulls after Keaton. Can't let Kyler free for a couple of threes. Love to see the twins have monster games.

True, though if we shoot our season average we still win by 31. Also, yeah its Northwestern, but they've not lost by 40 to anyone else (had been mostly competitive in B1G play). Nebraska, who has had the #1 defense in CBB over the last couple months or so, did a lot of the same blitzing/trapping/2 on the ball and we figured that out in the 2H enough that they went away from it and Keaton ended up scoring 23 in that 2H.

Purdue with the switching. Torched.
Washington just face-guarded him. Worked okay for a lot of the game, Keaton finishes with 22/5/8.
Nebraska with tight, physical defense and some blitzing/trapping. Worked a bit in 1H, got torched in 2H.
Northwestern blitzed/trapped. Keaton still finishes with 13/7/5 on 50% shooting. Picked his spots and his teammates shot 42% from 3.

It'll be interesting to see what Izzo comes up with outside of Jeremy Fears tripping/nut punches/arm bars/shoulder blows lol. A lot of good coaches have tried different things (and none of them have worked yet, really).

The other thing that might work (earmuffs, Izzo) is pressing full court since without Boswell we kinda lack ballhandlers and aren't naturally inclined to playing on the break.

And of course if John Beilein were still in the league he'd spring some weirdo 1-3-1 on us.

Big Z lob threat works great against zone and Keaton double team.

Work in progress but trapping should open up lane to Andrej drives. He has a nice mid range and close in jumper. He should pull up and take the 8 footer instead of trying to take everything all the way to the hoop. He is not as big and strong as TSJ so often he does not get the foul call. Its coming. JMO but I wish he would push the ball up the floor quicker and look for transition basket. Unfortunately he is not great at pulling it back out or dishing if the opening is not there. He is getting better but is not creating like Domask.

Will that press work against Mirc? If two defenders "trap" him in the corner, doesn't he just pass over them?

We've only given up 4 kill shots all year, I believe.

Northwestern almost snuck one in on us at the end of the game which would have aggravated me. They had a 7-0 run but it's not like they were going to make a 3 last night anyway I guess.😂
