Pretty sloppy. Didn't play a complete game, but a win is a win is a win. I hope they show up for the whole game on Tuesday

Not the margin I was expecting, but a W is a W, and Underwood gets more teachable moments.

Still plenty of room for improvement, but we got another win in the process. A few days to prepare for perhaps our biggest test thus far in Wake Forest. This team seems to improve when we have a few days to prepare.

Frazier, Alstork, and Lucas combine for 17 points, 15 assists, and one turnover.

We need to figure out how to deal with a simple press and zone because that gave us fits all game long. Definitely better in the second half though and I'm sure BU will get them better prepared for it.

NCCU ran a pretty good zone and took away what Illinois has been good at so far which is attacking the basket and drawing fouls. The zone completely neutralized Smith since his outside shot hasn't come around so far, needs to keep developing more variety to his game (not worried about it).

Finke and AJ look exactly like you want upperclassmen leaders to look like. Making shots, making hustle plays on both ends, playing hard defense, setting the example. Finke especially, if he is on the bench, is always the first guy up and congratulating player after a timeout or big play. Bringing the energy.

I commented in the game thread but will say again, Alstork hasn't been scoring but he plays the right way and is a very good passer. Good defense and especially this game was making the defense collapse and finding the open guy for baskets. Him and Lucas do a great job of manipulating the defense.

Yeah, that was a little odd...not Bo Ryan and Groce odd, but odd. This time around, my money is on the Illini coach.

Looked like their coach was pointing to the stands or something.. maybe a disruptive fan or maybe was hoping to get the attention of the hot dog vendor? :noidea:

Glad to see the staff made the right adjustments and lit a fire under some of the guys butts.
Games like this used to go all the way down to the wire.

Nice to get 86 out of a sloppy game. That would have been 56 in years gone by

Finke and Jordan, making it go right now. AJ is all over place, something I wasn't sure would happen , pleasantly surprised. Alstork isn't hurting us, solid d and passing, hope scoring comes. Think TJL and Trent almost interchangeable ATM, and Trent playing better imo.

Test time comes next 4 games, see who we are. 6-0 good start, many questions still to be answered, but we look confident and play hard. Bring on Wake.;):illinois:

Quite a gap between the performances of the Upper Classmen vs. the Freshmen tonight. Thank God for experience!

I wasn't terribly pleased with our overall game tonight. Too many 3's, and not enough shots in the paint. I guess the NCCU zone was a big factor.

We're learning more about our shortcomings and how to handle them each game being played. Maybe the freshmen had too much turkey yesterday?
