BU said on the post-game radio that he kind of saw this coming. That being the guys were flat at practice. Bound to happen with this many freshmen playing. He sang AJ praises again on his work ethic and wished some of the other guys would pick up on it.

"Mark Alstork didn't shoot it worth two hoots, but 5 assists..."

Underwood has at least one or two of these one-liners in each presser so far that just make me laugh unexpectedly.

Underwood: "Yeah, we foul a lot."

Underwood: I like NC Central. Got a lot of respect for LaVell and the job he does.

Underwood: NC Central was the aggressor. We got out on our heels. Very evident by the rebound numbers.

Underwood: Te'Jon was really the sole reason we made a run to start the second half. Great defensive pressure and communication.

Underwood: Alstork didn't shoot it worth two hoots but 5 assists to 1 turnover.

Underwood: Part of my responsibility is to make sure these guys are dialed in mentally. I didn't do a good job preparing them for this game emotionally.

Underwood: Mark Smith 1-for-4. That's focus. That's my job to make sure they're dialed in.

Underwood: Great job from Fink. Need more from him on glass. Didn't get Leron the ball near enough in the zone.

Underwood: Aaron was Aaron. He is the poster boy for hard work paying off on the court.

Underwood: Getting better at playing not to lose. Went through this last year at Oklahoma State.

Underwood: It's confidence, expecting to do the right things and make the right plays. No lead is too safe and no deficit is too big.

Told coaching staff, "We're going to find out who will lead and who will fight."

Underwood: Lucas took complete control of locker room and court. Didn't have to do anything X's and O's wise at halftime.

Underwood: "At some point, there has to be pride." Te'Jon, Leron stepped up. Te'Jon was driving that bus. I was really excited to see that.

Underwood: Got to find a way to get easy baskets (offensive rebounds).

Underwood: I knew how good NC Central is. Knew it was a big game for them. I just sensed I need to be on them. We weren't sharp in shootaround. If we do that in Big Ten play, we're losing.

Underwood: I tried to fight for them a little bit, get on them. Freshmen didn't give us much.

Underwood: We're 6-0, so I think we're prepared. Went to Vanderbilt and EIU. It'll be a big-boy game against Wake Forest. I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it. It's time to take the next challenge and move and grow.

Underwood: Aaron Jordan and Jeffrey Carroll rises are similar. Didn't start JC first 18 games and played himself into one of biggest turnarounds in college basketball last season.

Underwood: The paint is extremely challenging to defend today based on rules. Don't allow secondary defenders to do much.

20 assists to 10 turnovers. I like those numbers

This is the sloppiness you have after playing so many low level competitions. Don't blame players too much. They are human beings and this is inevitable

Let's see how the team react when the level of competition ramps up.

Requires 2.5 made per game. If Augie counted, after tonight, he will have 15 made - the bare minimum to be listed. If Augie doesn't count he will have 11 in 5 games - not enough to be listed.

Hmm odd. The top of the list says "Updated November 25th. Games through November 23rd."

So if a player shoots 1/2 from three every game this year, he wouldn't make the list of highest percent? That seems crazy to me.

The Illini were off tonight sans Finke who had a great game. I agree with Underwood, if we give this performance on a larger stage the Illini won't win.

I love how the staff coaches a game and I love their teaching mentality.

My btn+ feed was a bit crazy and I had a 3 year old crawling/jumping all over me, so I might have missed something. From what I saw we ran one “new” set tonight. Not really new, just an extended version of a set we've run every game with an extra action on the back end. There will be at least 2 more counter actions built into this set when we’re ready.

We also ran a dribble entry without the 3rd screen (downscreen or backscreen where we’ve seen some lobs) and Finke flared back to the 3 point line. Usually that flare comes off a screen from the second cutter so I’m not sure if it was a busted play call or if Finke just kinda read the spacing.

We’re getting good at hitting the open first cutter. Think we’ve seen 1-2 layups/fouls every game from that guy. We need to get better at reversing the ball completely after the 2 man game doesn’t work. We drive or shoot almost every time before the ball hits the opposite wing again. When we get more reversals, our half court efficiency will spike. BU has said that 1 reversal=~25% chance to score, 2=~33%, 3=~40+% but 4=70+% chance. When we get more reversals we’ll see more scores off cutters. Well also see more scores because no defense wants to work through a mix of 10+ off and on ball screens per possession, which you’ll get with 4 reversals.

I'm thinking Finke will be making some money in Europe in a couple of years.

I am thinking the stats from the D3 Opponent maybe don't count in the NCAA D1 stats?

Without the Augustana game Jordan moves into top 20 nationally for 3 pt % at 57.9%.

With Augustana he is #2 at 65.2%.

Either way,

Stats count against anyone you play. Augie stats count.
