Illinois 86, Rutgers 63 Postgame

I was watching while cooking for the week, but from what I saw, no one really played small and there weren't hugely apparent chemistry issues. That's freaking great, considering the dudes who stepped up while TSJ was out could have been irked about a reduced role.

I love this team. I love their chemistry and I love how they're ready to face anything together. I know we've known this for a while, but this season is going to be special
What are you serving this week?

After the Michigan game, I thought about how demoralizing it had to have been for Michigan to shoot about 50 percent, hit 83 percent of free throws and have zero unforced errors on offense, yet give up 88 points and lose by 15.

After today's game, I think about how demoralizing it had to have been for Rutgers to hold us to 22 percent on 27 attempts from three point range and see us shoot 59 percent from the line, yet give up 86 points and lose by 23.

I guess the kryptonite is shooting 32 percent on layups for an entire game, and if so, I'll take that bout of luck that does not happen in a 6 game tournament here in a couple of months.

We continue to manifest our maturity this year by withstanding comeback runs by opponents.

The team seems really steady right now.
I do agree this should help Illinois down the stretch. I just don't want this to be a habit where they build a lead and then allow their opponents to make a run against them when it could be avoided because there will be a time, said opponent will take the lead and possibly win.

I prefer that home game against NU in which the Illini never let their feet off the pedal. Real good teams put teams away early and often.

In the end, there will be all types of games which Illinois will have to respond to adversity. It's been fun so far.

The first few games Harmon played in, I thought he was overmatched and wondered what Underwood saw in him.

Man, was I wrong, that kid can play.
He did redeem himself. I noticed after he TOed the ball when he was running point guard, he was very upset with himself running back. Good sign.

Don’t think you could find transfer pieces from this offseason that fit as nicely as they do at Illinois. Everyone has their role, plays to their strengths and gets it done. Masterful eye for talent and ability to find the talent that fits the system. Coach of the year stuff.

In 66 years of watching Illini basketball, I have never seen such an offensively diverse, capable, balanced, and talented offensive mix of skills. Planning to stop two players from going for 20+ is a total waste of time...and that is the typical plan of most coaches. Doesn't work against Illini. Rutgers did play some smart, tough defense at times, but to focus on stopping one player gives another the opportunity to shine...and they did.

What does that mean. Simple. When this experienced, long, smart, and talented defensive team is focused and energized, it will be tough for any team to beat them.
I’ve been watching almost as long, and I would put the Flyin’ Illini in this conversation — 4 starters avg double figures, Bardo shot almost 50% + Smith/Liberty provided good support off bench. They said, the current squad has a lot more size and rebounds better.

I duly remember when it got to 55-51 Illini......barely remember because my mind and vision was severely damaged by the swift reversal of fortunes by the Illini.....

A 31-12 run to close out the game by the beloved dulls the senses of us mere mortals watching our favorite team do it's thing....

BTW , did you notice my new chest tattoo of the Orange Illini symbol by my heart.........I am a O & B creature...I really really am...

I believe we had 5 players in double figures with QG getting another double double..........
Justin Harmon was the player of the game , IMHO.......I loved it when he drove and scored on big cliff down the paint.....he is the epitome of a warrior and I loved his determined play.......
great to have TSJ back and he resumed the locomotive drives to the basket and scoring.......
cohawk had a good game but not as great as the last few games......But he did hit a big 3 and was excellent on D most of the time....big cliff got him a few times , but , so what , we won by 23......
Domask did have a sub par game for him and he still got double digits and a couple blocks on D...............
