With regards to Ben, I decided to track him this game just to see how the eyes compared to reality, and yeah, he had a rough night on both sides of the ball. The shots he took were high quality, just didn't fall. Shooters gotta shoot, so I don't blame him for that. On the boards, Ben really struggled- he does show effort but his reaction time is slow and he doesn't have proper positioning or strength to effectively get and secure the boards or box out. By my count he gave up 5 2nd chance opportunities. It wasn't pretty.

As for shooting defense, he was consistently out of position and in reactionary trailing position. He did get back to contest the opportunity in several cases enough for Wisconsin not to shoot, though the window was still there. The player's stat line who he was guarding in a given possession:

16pts on 7 of 11 shooting

I'll try continuing to track this as the season goes on
Great work. It is concerning at this point that Ben - who I absolutely root for and believe can be a valuable contributor in the right role - is getting twice as many minutes as Riley, who is objectively much more effective on the floor. Riley doubled him up on boards in half the minutes tonight and outscored him. It seems like Riley's leash with BU is very short, while Ben's is unlimited; no matter how many missed shots, boards, or defensive assignments he's out there. Really puzzling to me the handling of the two by the staff. Maybe behind the scenes it is justified, but you would be hard pressed to convince anyone who watches the games.

I feel like Ben could be a great off the bench, spot up shooter who can come in a provide some spark and spell some guys. I just don't see him being a 25 minute a night guy on this team. But, just my opinion on what I see on the court during games. No background data whatsoever.

I've been a big Tre White critic but this is exactly the type of play I expected from him. I should be kinder to him since in this game, I noticed how well he bails out others when he cuts to the basket but no one else bails him out in a similar manner. I also appreciate Underwood acknowledging his errors and understanding each game is different and will require different personnel.
If things start clicking for him, that changes a ton.

It's not necessarily abandoning what Brad stands for, it's just stating the obvious really... just don't get how Ben's a better option for those clutch-time minutes and starting spot than Riley, and maybe even some of the others like DGL, Morez.

Cannot be insufficient lineup wise against some of the good teams coming up...

One of my biggest concerns is what you raised, he seems to be out of position. He us reactionary and seems to Ttrail plays.

Morez, under no circumstances, can be on the floor late. He's a 50% foul shooter and even the ones that he makes are loud. He needs to play, but until he settles in......you can't have him as a target too nbe fouled.

What a GREAT game as the Illini take down the # 20th ranked rodents tonight...........................what a great comeback win from the fiasco in Evanston...........We came out with hustle and also got a solid number of offensive rebounds and very tight defense.........

I would think that Mr. Boswell has a very good chance of being Defensive player of the year in the B$G.........I really really do.....

Crowd sounded great and were rewarded with some free nuggets .....Way to go Illini Nation.......bringing the pain back to Paign...

KJ with 24 points and numerous assists & rebs.......
Trey White came alive for 23 points , 9 rebs and numerous FT's down the stretch................
off nights by Riley and too an extent scoring , Tomi........he did get a lot of rebs.....................
Ben H. with another disappointing game.....his defense is regressing fast.................as is his shooting %.......

post game radio interview.............

we are very capable of beating anybody................
Tre was terrific tonight............
I have been furious about our rebounding for a while now..............we turned that around this game................
we were close to having more offensive rebs than they had total rebs.............
they were the leading FT % team in the nation and they only hit 14-21 tonight.......
our culture is to get on the floor for loose balls and Rez did that this game...........
KB with 7-7 FT's and elite D........................

Papa Del's doesn't have deep dish pizza. They have pan pizza.

Inconsistency is our constant. We will have some very fun games and some head scratchers (NW...), like it seems we have for several years. Glad to see the free throws get cleaned up!

Experience and trust for now. I can’t fault Brad over two inexperienced Freshmen that he’s not comfortable with, especially in crunch time. WR needs to stay patient and find his role. He didn’t look patient in the game and he didn’t look happy in the handshake line. Hopefully he is learning from the bench.

And maybe this is thinking too in advance... but since he was in the stands after all, might not be the greatest thing for Alex Constanza to weigh in on.

Solid win. Will look good on selection Sunday, really needed this one.

1. Ben shouldn’t play. Sorry, but it’s 4 on 5 both sides of the ball when he’s on the floor….

2. Will & Tomi both with off nights, neither could get into a rhythm. Tre stepped up big time. Great two-way night for him. He’s going to be important for us, glad to see him do a lot of things on both sides of the ball. Like his game.

4. Morez played more like a freshman tonight, but great job on the glass, him & the team.

5. KJ is S P E C I A L. Lotto pick.

6. Kylan MF Boswell.

7. BEAT TENNESSEE

Ben looks like he could be playing himself into Goode 2.0. Off the bench 15 minutes a game.

Love the W. Needed it. Tre and KJ show on offense. Kylan's best overall game.

Two knocks: Defensive positioning...

I get drop coverage plays the percentages. But at what point do the bigs need to challenge a shot? Tomi watched as guy's flipped it in the basket or backed up until he was under the basket. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Will Tennessee back door us to death? Wisconsin had lots of cutters they just straight missed. Maybe due to athleticism or maybe not having a pure point guard. I not sure Tennessee will make the same mistake.

That said, let's shock the world Saturday afternoon in the Battle of the Orange.

.....AAAND, what about Ben.....?

26 Min.1-5 FG20.0% FG1-5 3pt20.0% 3pt FG1-2 FT50.0% FT1 REB1 AST0 BLK0 STL4 PF0 TO4 PTS

Still doesn't take into account countless second chance opportunities given up as well as dribble drives and scores.

This isn't Georgetown. This is a basketball school with pedigree and many good pieces currently on the roster. Should not be ahead of all the talent that is seemingly "shelfed" when it comes down to the nitty-gritty.

Yes, we did. Much better. (Except for getting out rebounded on flippin free throws 2-3 times…yikes!)

I disagree with the shock the world sentiment. This is a home game for us. If we're not in the game until the end, I'd be supremely disappointed.

The days of us court storming needs to end. That's when you know that you've arrived as a program.

Go out and act like the better team, play like the better team and grab a W.
