Great work. It is concerning at this point that Ben - who I absolutely root for and believe can be a valuable contributor in the right role - is getting twice as many minutes as Riley, who is objectively much more effective on the floor. Riley doubled him up on boards in half the minutes tonight and outscored him. It seems like Riley's leash with BU is very short, while Ben's is unlimited; no matter how many missed shots, boards, or defensive assignments he's out there. Really puzzling to me the handling of the two by the staff. Maybe behind the scenes it is justified, but you would be hard pressed to convince anyone who watches the games. With regards to Ben, I decided to track him this game just to see how the eyes compared to reality, and yeah, he had a rough night on both sides of the ball. The shots he took were high quality, just didn't fall. Shooters gotta shoot, so I don't blame him for that. On the boards, Ben really struggled- he does show effort but his reaction time is slow and he doesn't have proper positioning or strength to effectively get and secure the boards or box out. By my count he gave up 5 2nd chance opportunities. It wasn't pretty.
As for shooting defense, he was consistently out of position and in reactionary trailing position. He did get back to contest the opportunity in several cases enough for Wisconsin not to shoot, though the window was still there. The player's stat line who he was guarding in a given possession:
16pts on 7 of 11 shooting
I'll try continuing to track this as the season goes on
If things start clicking for him, that changes a ton.I've been a big Tre White critic but this is exactly the type of play I expected from him. I should be kinder to him since in this game, I noticed how well he bails out others when he cuts to the basket but no one else bails him out in a similar manner. I also appreciate Underwood acknowledging his errors and understanding each game is different and will require different personnel.
Papa Kvells approves the dinner choice.
One of my biggest concerns is what you raised, he seems to be out of position. He us reactionary and seems to Ttrail plays. With regards to Ben, I decided to track him this game just to see how the eyes compared to reality, and yeah, he had a rough night on both sides of the ball. Morez, under no circumstances, can be on the floor late. He's a 50% foul shooter and even the ones that he makes are loud. He needs to play, but until he settles in......you can't have him as a target too nbe fouled. It's not necessarily abandoning what Brad stands for, it's just stating the obvious really... just don't get how Ben's a better option for those clutch-time minutes and starting spot than Riley, and even some of the others like DGL, Morez.
Cannot be insufficient lineup wise against some of the good teams coming up...
Experience and trust for now. I can’t fault Brad over two inexperienced Freshmen that he’s not comfortable with, especially in crunch time. WR needs to stay patient and find his role. He didn’t look patient in the game and he didn’t look happy in the handshake line. Hopefully he is learning from the bench. It's not necessarily abandoning what Brad stands for, it's just stating the obvious really... just don't get how Ben's a better option for those clutch-time minutes and starting spot than Riley, and even some of the others like DGL, Morez.

Papa Del's doesn't have deep dish pizza. They have pan pizza.
Inconsistency is our constant. We will have some very fun games and some head scratchers (NW...), like it seems we have for several years. Glad to see the free throws get cleaned up!
