With his athleticism, ability to shoot the three and with how bad Ben has been, how sub par Will has been.....it seems like there should be some minutes available? David is getting in for heaven's sake. How bad could practice be?

Id be a lot more confident in this team with Ty playing.

You couldn't play both him and Morez at the same time but you could basically split them with 20 minutes a piece and always have a tough defender and good rebounder on the court.

Hum/Booth could play the minutes at the 4 while Morez spells Tomi.

We were higher than Wisconsin on both going into the game so I'd guess both models expected a win at home.

I get Brad wanting to do right by a senior to give him a chance to work through the slump, but if he's not shooting, he doesn't provide much of anything. Just stands in the corner and our offense increasingly stopped looking his way.
Agreed- it’s even worse than that- Ben is a complete defensive liability and his inability to rebound from the PF spot is a huge negative. His only rebound in 26 min got poked away from him leading to another possession for the other team. He gave up two offensive rebounds off of missed free throws

He’s completely unplayable right now- he’s hurting the team and Brad has to be less stubborn and see that. You can live with Riley’s mistakes because he rebounds and has offensive game that can be special. Morez needs more PT as well. Ben should be a 10 min off the bench guy- not a 30 min starter, it’s going to cost us more games than just Northwestern if this doesn’t change

I have been very critical of Ben the last couple of games....but I 100% understand why he is out there to close out games. Riley's minutes I see increasing as we go, but he hasn't shown the patience or decision making to handle being in that position. Natural for his age. Morez would live at the line if he's in there(and that probably doesn't end great for us). I like DGL but he obviously lacks size so limits him with Boswell and KJ both in. I liked the offense/defense switching with him and Ben tonight at the end. So Ben has what so many lack on the team. Experience. He's a mature presence on the floor and that goes a long ways at the end of games. Now the argument is there that his early game minutes could be cut back a little, but I understand Underwoood's confidence in him late.

I also can't wait for the game when the shots fall and everyone changes their tune immediately...just like all the love Tre White is suddenly getting here. Just hope that game from Ben is coming up soon!

Interestingly, we didn't move at all on Torvik (10) or KenPom (15), which means I assume we performed almost exactly how each model expected.

And yes, I looked before and after the record was updated.
We haven't moved on Torvik since after the Arkansas game. We were at #10 before playing Northwestern.

As I saw it, we moved from 16 to 14 today. Did I misread this? Not trying to be a pain (it comes without effort), but which is correct? Or does it just move continuously as the night's results trickle in?

Ahhh the YMCA coaches are out tonight!
Did someone say YMCA?...

It moves continuously as results come in, so we could have jumped around throughout the evening based on other results.

I looked right as our game ended and as soon as I noticed our record updated.

Brad stating that Ben was our best defender “analytically” over the first 7 games, and giving Hamer a shoutout in the same sentence felt like it was aimed directly at the Loyalty forum. Haha.
I get that BU is probably sticking up for his player but I'm sorry, he can't honestly think the Illinois fanbase is buying that Ben has graded out the best on the team defensively in all those games. we might "have no idea what we're trying to do", but we DO know that whatever BU is "trying to do" with Ben on the defensive end isn't working.

But holy hell Brad! Why are you playing Humrichous over Will Riley?!? What the heck??
They both had opportunities tonight. Neither took advantage. I'm still cool with Ben H starting until Will Riley takes the reigns and doesn't let go.....!!!

Soooo, less than 10 games in you all want to bench a starter who has played and produced at a high level the past 3-4 years (Ben H) with an underaged freshman who has played well but not had time to 'beef up' in order to play major B1G minutes yet? I will offer this rebuttal. BU does NOT want to play Riley starter minutes on a consistent basis at this point in the season because BU does NOT want WR to burn out at season's end..... Stupid (but wholly relevant) quote incoming...... "It's a marathon, not a sprint!".....

Every team seems to have that one guy who seemingly evades accountability. Everyone but the coach can see it’s not working, but for some reason the coach continues to give that player chances.

Humrichous appears to be that player for this year’s team.

In my mind he's always been a mid-season transfer possibility and now the risk is even higher. In the old days he could see a light at the end of the tunnel. Now he's looking at more talent arriving next year so no guarantees on his future.

His stats never pointed to him being a plus rebounder so I'm not sure how much of an upgrade over Ben he'd be.

He'd probably be well served to go to a place where he'd get lots of minutes and good coaching to improve in places like rebounding and defense.
