Illinois 87, Eastern Illinois 57 Postgame

This teams defense should keep them in every game this year. If they can limit TOs and the easy points from the opposition they will have dare I say elite metrics. So much different than last year's team. They are so long and switch everything. I am curious what happens with small fast guards. Not sure they have someone quick to defend those types but they can probably compensate with their length and help defense.

We are going to see a lot of steals and blocks this year. Hopefully they can be the team Underwood was trying to make them in 2018. I think he has the players to do it.

Okay, so about that Hawk performance. While his improved shooting mechanics are going to be the headline, his improved decision-making is every bit as important. My guy had 0 turnovers and 1 foul. That's the maturity we so desperately need out of him. That's what's going to keep him on the floor and put us in a position to win a lot of games.
It was great to see him raining 3s in the first half, but I actually thought he showed a much better all-around game in the second half. CoHawk won’t shoot like that every game, so I was possibly more encouraged by his second half performance. That’s the foundation I want to see. The great night from 3 is the cherry on top.

Mayer is not comfortable at all. I cannot put a finger on it but he just seems out of sorts. But about the game, we missed a ton of bunnies. Missed a lot of FTs and we are seeing how much we are missing Luke. His leadership on the floor. We are still learning on the fly but by January, we should be dialed in.
My comment during the game about Mayer was he was playing “sleepy.” The overall effort and interest in the game seemed to be lacking. Hopefully, it is just needing to get more comfortable or lingering conditioning problems due to the summer injury/illness that he will get over. Not going to reach the heights we are hoping for with that version of Mayer all season. Good news is just the first game and plenty of time to get on track.

I hate to be this guy and am proud of myself for not correcting every instance in this thread, but for all the love he is getting you’d think people would spell Sencire’s first name right. If auto correct doesn’t try to correct it, you’re probably spelling it wrong. Or just use Harris.

OK, soap box put back into corner.

The lads came through with a spirited effort and such a fast paced attack it was.........If you blink you might miss a tomahawk slam by TSJ or a great bounce pass by Ty in the paint for a deuce...........I was suffering with a stomach virus but the play of the Illini was the best medicine , along with healthy doses of Pepto Bismol and 420...............................

What I witnessed was a squad of highly skilled players without defined roles yet , showing what a vast difference this years edition of the Illini will be from the last 3 years.........

The full court press or delayed zone press accomplished what it was designed for......To slow down the opponents possession and pick up some steals in the process............

Sincere Harris was a Tazmanian devil with his pressure D and showed advanced footwork for a true freshman.......He is already a fan favorite and deservedly so.........

Cohawk with an impressive shooting display and overall great floor game.......TSJ showed his game is a little bit of everything and his penetration into the paint was rarely stopped before he got to the rim for a bucket or a foul.........

The only anxious parts of the game for me was the abysmal FT shooting.............................I'm sure this will be a major part of practice this week and I hope nerves had more to do with it than poor form............

This is a great time for Illini nation..........great FB season and it looks like it's gonna be another great season for BB........It really really does........................

Let me just say that Shannon is THAT dude.

And Clark is well on his way to being THAT dude.

Lot of silly errors that need to be corrected but the talent and athleticism are there. Just gonna take some time to see it all come together.
