By the standards and conventional wisdom of basketball before the spreadsheet jockeys got a hold of it, Purdue outplayed us in that game.

But 3 is worth more than 2, the analytics are right.
Beat them the same way we’ve been beating teams all season:

At the free throw line (+11)
And with offensive rebounds (+9)

Illini have had great players obviously, great freshmen all of that. Wagler might be the best. Not only that, once you get into any type of talk about how important this game was, to have that type of performance, its arguably the greatest individual game in program history. Win at Mackey against #4. Most points by an opponent on their stadiums history. #2 in all time points in a game. And I read this, but someone posted this is the most points by a player ever against a top 5 AP ranked team by a road player.

This performance shredded any talk of whether or not he will go in the lottery (How high remains to be seen). He's put himself on the forefront for 1st team All B1G, potential B1G POY and 1st team AA. Amazing and everybody will be tuned in to see the rest of this historical freshman year.

Oh, and Illinois is once again a legit threat to win it all in March. Amazing.

I see his performance today more as another number 23 from the past that played for the Bulls....

And yet they stuck it out and dug deep to pull out a huuuuge win.
Obviously one of the great moments of our history, but in terms of wanting to sit down and actually watch a classic game, it's the Da Vinci masterpiece of basketball that was Wake Forest that actually stirs the memories of what we want to remember those guys by.

If the BTN still exists in 20 years, today's game will be on it.

I don't know, the Arizona game in 05 was pretty exciting
I meant an individual performance. Brandon Paul v. #5 OSU in 2012 is all I can summon.

But Brandon was a junior and we were playing at home.

Nothing in the 43 seasons I've been an Illini fan, or my 60-year lifetime, surpasses what Keaton did today, on the road, v. #4, as a true freshman.

I have no words for what I just watched.

What a major victory on the road! And to think our only B1G loss was to undefeated Nebraska on a last second shot.

Brother altgeld88 and I were at a bar in Bethesda, MD watching, and our enthusiasm was infectious. Those patrons around us started paying attention and asking about Wagler, who we explained was an 18 year old kid with only two offers. Needless to say, they were duly impressed.

No rebounds, just gives the trolls something to complain about. I've worked hard to "ignore" most of them...

Today is Wagler's day. I am totally on board. As far as the best game ever the Nick Anderson 3 at Indy with a second left might be my favorite game. March 5,1989 ( I had to look up the date.) The screaming Looser fans all went silent at the same moment.
Yeah, that Indiana game in 1989 was something. Some others Georgia Tech to get to #1 in 1988, verses Chis Paul and Wake Forest in 2004. The crushing of Michigan without Ayo.

“Kansas” owed Illini nation for several injustices over the years.

Looks like Keaton is the reparation.
