We really brought a level of intensity throughout the entire game I haven't seen for a while. They basically made Missouri quit about 5 minutes into the second half when they realized we weren't letting up. It was a really impressive game on all fronts.

Great job by Underwood on getting things corrected and getting these guys up for the game. I was glad to see Ben make some shots last night as he has really taken on a different role this year and plays at full speed all game. Also, congrats to him getting married today!

But do you remember the stretch he was out?

We beat Northwestern by 30, beat Michigan St and then went on the road and beat Michigan by 15... I think we lost to #1 Purdue by 5 and there may have been another buy game in there where we murdered that team as well... unsure analytics were hurt during that stretch much (would like to see what the adjEff was just for those games)
There was also a Maryland loss that felt like we missed him, but yea we did play pretty well

We'll have had 1 game in 16 days with the next game being Southern, then Penn State. Absolutely no reason to not be at full health.
Whatever is needed to get Boswell healthy, do it. If it means he misses the Southern game, do it. I think his shoulder is still an issue. Get that right if it’s possible.

We also had the clunker to Maryland at home while TSJ was out. Hard not to think about how the season may have been different if he hadn’t missed those 6 games. Maybe we knock off Purdue at Mackey, maybe we don’t drop that game to Maryland with him, and we end up a 2 seed and not in the same bracket as UConn, and get to a Final Four.

Yup I forgot that game as well (should’ve looked this up but was outside on my phone)

4 wins
33 pt win in buy game
30 pt win vs NW
15 pt win at Michigan
3 pt win vs MSU

2 losses
5 pt loss to #1 Purdue
9 pt loss to Maryland

Just not sure that stretch tanked our analytics, but idk I could certainly be wrong there

Couple notes:

(1) I can't believe the "SEC is the best conference in America and we assume this by default" talking point has migrated to basketball now. We'll just see about that

(2) Every year, usually in early January, we have a game where we just execute something horribly for 40 minutes, Underwood yells a lot, we get all depressed and then they come out the next game with a fire under their...uh...wood. Did that happen already re: defense? Because if so, we're in GREAT shape...

(3) Was mildly annoying to see Mizzou re-enact Nebraska's final possession where we stuck to them like velcro but they splashed a contested three at the buzzer anyway

(4) Man that second half was a beatdown of epic proportions. I love that they pushed it out to 90+ without even pushing the tempo

(5) If Petrovic ever gets good enough at defense..................

(6) BRAG BRAG BRAG BRAG BRAG BRAG BRAG

To be fair, it absolutely was the best basketball conference last year. This year is looking to be a different story.

As far as football, the SEC stopped being the best conference when NIL started and the rest of the country could start paying the players.

Couldn’t agree more … It’s about showing up mentally f’ing ready … Every game … Not just every other game …

Be an EDG … Every loose ball is ours … Set the f’ing tone from the tip … Lock in defensively … Crash the flippin glass …

If we do those little things … The shots will fall enough where we will win most of, if not all of our games …

Anyone else do the face palm and or eye roll when Crews hit the fadeaway 3 with no time on the shot clock over Boswell?

I was told on TV it seemed like it shouldn't have counted because the overlay shows 0 for 0.9 and under, but they looked at it during break and I guess he got it off somehow... had to have been very close

Gates in the postgame interview: “Do I think we're a good team? Yeah, I think we're a good team but Illinois hasn't gone through the things we've gone through this year as it relates to practices and who's in and who's out and trying to get a unit out there."

Uh…. 🤔🤨
Is it fair to say after that comment that maybe Coach Gates didn't scout the team very well? 🤣

I have one complaint about the game last night.

Underwood cleared the bench too early. If we would have scored 6 more points we would have beat mizzou by more points than they scored total. That would have been the cherry on top of the beatdown.

For all the non-St. Louisans, just know that this win is 100% sweeter in person. Especially if you are sitting with 7 Mizzou fans who asked “when can the chirping start?” when it was 12-12
When it was 21-18 with around 9 mins left in the 1H, just before that long run that took the lead to 16 at half, I turned to @Retro62 and asked: "How are we allowing these clowns to stick this close to us?"

And then: game over.

I rewound because the tv shot clock definitely wasn’t in time.

But actually, when you watch the real shot clock he got it off in plenty of time.

Think they hit one more three the next 25 minutes after starting 3 of 4

Talk about a gut punch...

To lose a NPOY candidate mid season who seemed destined to earn us a 1 or 2 seed...

It wasn't Loyola loss painful, but for me it was close!

That suspension led me to IllinoisLoyalty in hopes of finding some insider knowledge (probably a few more of us out there too).

Obviously, in hindsight it wasn't as bad as it felt in those few weeks as Domask emerged and we then had the 2 headed monster when TJ came back...

The scoreboard shot clock was way off from the real time.
