I followed the VCU board for a few days, and on occasion thought I was here. All unhappy fan bases are alike, as Coach Tolstoy would say.

Well played.

Actually, Tolstoy said that happy families were all alike, each unhappy family is unhappy in it's own way. Which is why Tolstoy isn't a candidate for any job in the Big Ten.

Lose to Winthrop, post game thread 22 pages.

Beat an 8-2 CMU with the leading scoring in the country and 3 pages.

Honest question, are other school's message boards this way as well? When things are good, boards are fairly quiet vs. when they are not.

When we played Winthrop, we were undefeated and people were getting excited. And, we expected an easy win and ended up losing.

Once you lose a few in a row, the excitement wears off, and the attention wanes.

So, people comment after surprises -- big wins or bad losses -- and generally comment more when things start going well and there's more reason to pay attention.

There's some psychological reason behind this. Imagine meeting expectations. You're happy, but your not over the moon. Now, imagine not meeting expectations. You're going to be much lower than you were conversely high when you do not perform adequately. It's really that simple--people have more of an emotional reaction to something when the outcome is unexpected. We expect to beat a team called Winthrop or Central Michigan. But when we lose to a Winthrop, we are much more upset than a win against Central Michigan.

The board would be active if we beat Indiana or Wisconsin.

Disclaimer: Am engineer, not psychologist. Therefore I only think I'm a psychologist ;)

Observations:

Finke might have not shot the ball well, but was definitely a contributor on the boards.

Thorne looks slimmer and more nimble than the start of the year, baby hook was falling and we looked to contest shots in the paint.

Black's mid range jumper is the real deal... I fear it's attempt no longer.

CMU came back in the 1st half due to some unconscious 3 pt shooting during our 0-10 period. It was an unsustainable hot streak.

Tate played well, and had a great feed to a cutting DJW on the baseline for the dunk... great bounce pass.

Abrams shot the lights out.

My BTN recorded the noon replay fine.

Low attendance does not seem nearly as noticeable since the new layout, compared to past years A section no shows.

I feel like we are starting to find some chemistry and substitution patterns that work. On to the next...

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but CMU had a protester during the National Anthem. He had his back turned to the flag during the singing.
