This was a nice solid first outing. I wrote some comments as I watched the replay.

In general
- The screens need to be held a 1/2 second longer. The chaser is getting through too easily.
- I like the high hedge on some of the defensive screens.

Boswell
- In the first half he was trying too hard to push the fast break at the expense of control. He did better in the second half.

Davis
- Showed a much better court awareness. It really benefited several of his passes. He knew where the ball was going before he got it.

Humrich
- Needs to watch out for palming and carrying the ball when working solo inside.

Lee
- I loved Sencire's game. I'm going to really like Lee. That defense is wonderful.

Mirkivic:
- He seems to have issues maintaining his position when setting a screen. The slightest bump from the chaser knocks him back. In at least one case, he fell into the person for whom he was screening. He is clearly attempting to set himself; it just isn't working. It may be time to visit a martial arts teacher.
- His block out positioning could be improved. He got several defensive rebounds by overpowering a smaller player or reaching. I'm not sure he will be able to do this against B10 caliber players.

Z
- He was out of position defensively a fair bit. He tries to recover by reaching or blocking from behind. If he continues like this, I'm expecting him to be in consistent early foul trouble come B10 play.
- Needs at least one hand up when recovering from a high screen hedge.
- Needs to move after shooting a 3 vs. standing and watching for 1/2s after it hits the rim.
Do you only give out 1 star reviews on Google? Restaurants must hate you.

lol yes 30 point win, here’s everything that went wrong

To be fair, he did note a few positives, and I really only found a couple things I didn’t agree with

Z has never been foul prone, avg 1 foul per 10 mins across his college career.. think he just had a poor game in that regard

Also am not sure about Mirk having issues with boxing out due to not being able to get position, as there were at least two instances where he would’ve gotten yet another rebound but a foul was called on an Illinois State player for basically wrapping him up

I think the B1G stylistic difference is overblown, we tend to say these things every season about how X player “won’t be able to handle the physicality of the big, bad B1G conf” and then they tend to do just fine (because it’s really not as different from other leagues as folks like to believe it is for whatever reason)

After watching the highlights, I feel like this would be the most complete Illini team in years if they could just add a few things:

- 1-A high scoring wing
- 2-Another copy of Big Z
- 3-Another PG to handle the ball and distribute
- 4-One tough body off the bench to bring energy, defense and rebounds

If they could find those things over the next few months, watch out.
1.-Andre
2.-Tomi
3.-Keaton (by January)
4.-Brandon for energy and defense and maybe Ty for rebounds in March?.

Once Rodgers comes back, we will be 9 deep with Davis filling into spot minutes as the 10th guy
BU said (maybe at one of the media events) that he is going to give Davis more minutes this year. I think Davis averaged around 10 minutes a game last year, so I don’t think he will just be getting spot minutes. Unless that was just coach talk, or I don’t know what spot minutes mean. And the return of Rodgers could change that, as you say.

Different rules for an exhibition? Box score shows Big Z with 6 fouls. Also between him, Kylan, Lee and Wagler 18 fouls.
Just for this one exhibition. I don’t know who made the decision or why.

#illini vs. Illinois State will not have any foul-outs. So players can get more than five fouls and still play.

We did this in our exhibitions vs Kansas and Ole Miss too. Allows both teams to play around with rotation and personnel groups without having to worry about fouls.

Looks like we're doing something different in response to the complaints about postgame interviews. Now we are not broadcasting sound for the answers as well as the questions. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
the quality of the pressers is at an alltime low for MBB , WBB , FB and is getting worse........the mic the coaches are using goes in and out based on the coaches position to the mics.......
not mic'ing up the reporters is very frustrating to us fans.......why waste time listening to a presser if you are only hearing the answer's with no idea what the answer pertains to......

I have listened to other school's pressers and almost all of time have a moderator controlling the Q & A session and it is kind of embarrassing what we have to deal with.......not a good look and listen IMHO..............

I am going to try and alert JW to this problem through a direct email......if anyone has JW's email I sure would like to know what it is and hope he can help alleviate this annoying pattern......................

the more you know.........................

I believe the problem relates to the new uniform he is wearing this season more than anything else. I expect this will continue as long as he wears this new uniform.

I agree. Ty will eat up Davis’s minutes when he returns. BU will finally be able to go 10 deep regardless. We just need to stay away from the illness/injury bug. We have been hit hard the last few years.

Hard to draw any conclusions from this game but...Zero fouls for Mirk? 👀

He won't be able to play that freely against better comp but if he can even give us half of what he gave us yesterday without fouling then he really changes the dynamics of what I think this team can be.

Our passing has a chance to be ELITE. If you squint through orange colored glasses, you could see shades of the Kings teams that Andrej's dad played on with their great passing bigs.

Did we see who was out for pregame captains meeting?

Observations from the nose bleeds:

1) The team is really big. Not sure where they rank nationally, but at every position there was a size advantage.
2) Some zone was used. It led to some open 3s and one or two layups but wasn’t too bad.
3) Davie is a match up nightmare. With Humrichous or the Twins in the floor he becomes a 3 and good luck finding other 3s who can guard him…or guard him with your 4 and rain the 3s. Not sure how teams counter him without hoping all our shooters go cold.

At the game, actual attendance wasn't 15k, probably closer to 10k, but definitely well attended for an exhibition during a Bears game.

RE: Fouls
Was it just me or were there a bunch of ticky tack stuff called? There seemed to be a lot of calls on both teams where on replay I was scratching my head and wondering what the officials were seeing.
