The commentary toward the last of the game made me mute the game for about ten minutes. Discussing. I wanted to enjoy the game and the commentary wasn't about the game. This made me so angry. I loved an appreciated Webber's success, but what the H*** just happened here. Stop trying to make Bruce Webber something that he is not. Best of luck to him. But, I'm not entertained or enlightened by his commentary or analysis.

No one stays for 4 years anymore. Those days are gone.

It certainly is less common, but just last year we had a 4 year Illinois guy and a guy who played 4 years at SIU before transferring here for his final season.

As the Covid bonus year (24 year old musical chairs) finally works its way out of the system, I think things will settle down a bit.

Plus Morez is from Illinois and has been an Illini guy for years already.

Huh... That's uhhhh, that's a lot of residual anger for Bruce Weber. It's been 13 years, we're coming off an Elite 8 season, I think it's time to let it go that Weber didn't meet your expectations for coaching performance after '05 (or perhaps you hated him then too as that's what most of the stories were about tonight that you wanted to mute). But even if you don't, 2 parting thoughts:

1. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to call a massive blowout and attempt to keep people both entertained and not embarrass a far far far weaker opponent? When there was great plays, ball movement, or really high effort, they'd talk about it and try focusing on different players, but then you still have another 12 minutes of game time. Most broadcast teams would be talking about every other highly ranked team or the topic of the day at that point. Something like, "Boy Bruce, this Illini team sure has a lot of young talent, and if we're talking young talent, you've gotta just be excited by Duke. What's your take on Duke and how far do you see them going this year?"

2. Do you really expect an analyst who was a former coach of a team who took that team all the way to the National Championship and coached a team a few points away from a perfect season to not be asked about that team or give stories about that team or when he was coaching at the school? I mean come on. Every game J Leman calls for Illinois they ask him questions about his time here and laud him. Every time Bardo comes here they do the same. You really expect the network not to do that in a near 60pt beatdown?

Oh and one final thing, I thought the stories Bruce told were entertaining and pretty hilarious. I'd also say that no matter what people may think of him as a coach, he's been a great color guy for BTN. Every game I've seen him do, he's done a great job breaking down the game, giving insights, and been a knowledgeable and entertaining listen. And him and Hall made a fantastic team tonight in my opinion. With Hummel gone, they should be the BTN A team in my opinion.
Yes, you all are are right, my comments were inappropriate, and inconsiderate (and unkind).

My sincere apologies.

Does Corey Booth seem physically ready for BIG play? It appears to me that both Will and KJ are much stronger and physically ready even though younger. Didn’t watch him last year but don’t see him getting time.
Sounds and seems like it’s more of a competitive spirit thing with him. Underwood looking for more fight from him

Who is this "Webber" of whom you speak?

But in all seriousness, the game was a farce at that point. I enjoyed the commentary a lot more than I enjoyed watching our team play the Washington Generals. At that point in the game, I bet it was less competitive than a team scrimmage.

Think we are really rounding into form. Think we had the most bite defensively we’ve had all year. And we definitely made a point of driving the ball and getting fouled. And guys seem to be finding their roles. Loved Tre White’s game. Cutting and rebounding is exactly what we need from him. And loved Kylan’s game too. Suffocating defense and 7 assists. Managed to impact the game only taking one shot.

Will see how we look against a really good P5 opponent on Thursday. We were a step slow against Bama but not sure we will see a better team or at least a team that plays faster all year.

I like how we are progressing.

I will take the last 10 minutes of game commentary like that any day of the week in a game that the Illini win. It means the game is a blowout victory. This type of commentary happens in every game that is a blowout across almost all sports. The goal is to try to keep the audience engaged in a game that is becoming very unengaging. I personally loved the stories.

Not sure what Weber did to you to get you so angry at him, but this is such a weird issue to complain about. I think Weber does a great job on the call, and I can't help but thinking dang I wish he could have had more extended success here. He is such a nice guy, and I hope he sticks around BTN for quite a while. It was great seeing him get a nice ovation from the crowd.

MT apologized. It takes a good human to look at one's self honestly.
Like sometimes in the game thread, they may have been blowing off some steam. In this case maybe it was just some pent up feelings that needed to come to the surface and shouldn't be taken too seriously. I've said some things to the TV that I would be ashamed for anyone to hear.
We are all fallible. I F up every day. Just ask my wife.
Go Illini.

There was one point very late in the game where his colleague asked him "What did it feel like coaching here back then?" and Bruce stammered a bit and gave a bit of an awkward non-answer talking about how good the facilities are nowadays. I thought it was a weird, very open-ended question that would've required far more than the 6 or 8 second interval that Bruce had to answer, and you could tell he felt put on the spot. After his initial attempt to give 'something' to the question, he eventually just started doing the other guy's job (play-by-play) lol and was like "We have White [or whoever it was, can't remember] at the free throw line". It was awkward but also a bit funny.

Maybe he just transposed his anger towards Chris Webber and the scUM of 1988. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Fun Fact: I taught a class on AI last week (wore a Gritty jersey, long story). Got away with doing the background of the PowerPoint in blue and the text in orange, and a coworker who's a Michigan grad was in the class.

I took the liberty of putting the Free Press headline from the football game this year on the screen before class. Then during a convo about AI, I did manage to remind him that Juwan Howard has never beaten Illinois in basketball.

LOL I love my job.

The Illini are tall and deep and opponents are hating life when they look over and see Rez and Rley ready to sub in around the first commercial break. In fact it looked like Little Rock was on the verge of giving up in the first half.
The line-up of KJ, Bam, Tomi, Rez and Riley was effective and should work against higher level competition too.

Enjoy the ride watching them in Orange this year!

Yes. This is the right fan attitude in the new World of the Portal and NIL. These young men are only here for a short time. Enjoy them while they're here. Wish them well in their future endeavors. And welcome with open arms all the new young talent that always will be replacing them to proudly wear Illini Orange for a brief and memorable time.

We fans are the enduring rock upon which the Program is built. The Players have other loyalties beyond their time wearing the Illini jersey. A nice marriage for as long as it lasts.

Yeah, he is a really good shooter. Career at Arizona - right below 40% from 3, 80% from the free throw line. Something is weird with his shot, but trust he'll figure it out.
i like what Boswell is bringing to the table. he doesnt have the sexy stats but he plays great D, pretty solid with the ball in his hands, nice passing and is aggressive when he needs to be.
