Illinois 92, Minnesota 65 Postgame

Nice to see Ace getting some points in the second half. Been struggling lately. Better competition exposed him a bit. Still think he’ll be a great player down the road. Was thinking one and done after second game, but he’ll be back next year. Lucky for us.

My two big observations from tonight:

1. After that assault on the ears and brain that we had to endure during the MO from Sundvold and his broadcast partner, Dakich and Fleming were like a warm blanket for my senses.

2. I watched a rerun of Big Bang Theory right before the game and tell me that the guy who played Howard wouldn’t be perfect if ever there is a Richard Pitino Story made.

Great game. Kofi dominated, but everyone else stepped up and did their job around him.
Illinois fans got to complain and shoot hot takes for the first 10 and then I assume Brad read the game thread/Twitter feed outloud and the team shut everyone up

It feels good to smile again....wow...We were down 18-10 early ....went on a 82-47 run...Impressive ......
BTW, Kofi really can catch the ball....

Can you imagine if we did this on Saturday.

I was scared when I turned the game on 15 min after, but the rest of the way was one of the easiest conference games I ever watched. Great note to start the conference slate on. ALL GAS NO BRAKES!

Not sure where I read it today, but Kofi talked about never being around a passer like Dre and how he realized he needs to learn to work with that kind of talent and his unique court vision. I love them both and think they will both be here for at least another season and perhaps more. This train is going to be a fun ride that others will want to get on!

Kofi played exactly how we need him to play. 33 points & 13 boards. He was a monster tonight.
Agree with this. Equally important is that his teammates did a much better job getting him the ball. They did a much better job with passes and threw the ball where only Kofi could get it. They missed him a few times too but overall very effective.

Here's the post-game stats breakdown. Full discussion over in the stats thread. We out-scored them in all phases, and even though they had more scoring opportunities than us, I think you can probably attribute some of that to a certain # of offensive rebounds being unavoidable when a team misses 50 shots.

Moved from 11 to 8 in T rank and moved the line in favor of us against Rutgers.

I like that he still had a rough patch for a bit in this game, but kept his confidence. The game will slow down for him, and he's going to be awesome.

Rebounding was much better, but still too many turnovers and missed FTs. Definitely fixable but will need to improve in both if we are going to win on Sunday.

That said, really nice win. Hope Kofi continues to play this way.

Now, THAT is how you come out after a loss! I could have done without the slow start, but honestly ... it kind of makes the rest even more impressive, haha. I think we went on like an 80-36 run at some point or something?! Great work, boys.

Now let's go get Rutgers and get right back in the top ten! Kofi will need to bring it on Sunday, and the guards will need to be knocking down some shots. I'm confident our defense will show up no matter what.
