Illinois 93, Wisconsin 87 - Big Ten Tournament Champions

And credit Luke Goode for getting a clutch defensive rebound to prevent Wisky from getting a big late basket. He was obviously in some obvious back pain playing out there but gutted it out and then some.

Some on this board have questioned why Goode is out there at certain times. The above is an example of why. He thinks like a coach on the floor and he brings a down-and-dirty gritty energy to do some of the unnoticed things. (Coach has always appreciated that about him). Goode will be a coach himself somewhere at some point in the future if he wants to be.

This fine Illini core group of guys has one key guy from our dear neighboring state of Indiana and one key guy from our dear neighboring State of Wisconsin and one megastar from our dear Lincoln Park High School in Chicago. (Just as a reminder... this Chicago Illini superstar at one point had NO Division I offers in his younger playing life. Think anyone will notice him now?)

Not every guy can turn into a Shannon-level talent. But there are hundreds if not thousands of guys who could greatly develop their games like Junior has if things had turned out in a slightly different way for them. The amount of ball talent in this Nation (and World) is truly staggering. We always only see the tip of the iceberg of the ball talent in this World. Gyms and blacktops everywhere always have some.

And anyone can be a Goode in the sense of bringing his level of energy and willingness to get dirty on the floor and do what it takes to win. You just have to want to and be willing to pay the price.

Love the all out effort on every play of all three BTT game by Ty Rodgers. No matter what name he wants to go by (Ty Kwon Do, Tyrunascoreus Rex, Ty Bo Boxer, Tysmanian Devil, Ty Goes to the Runner), he is a special player who lifts the effort of all his teammates.

To win three games in three days when trailing by double digits in the second half of all three is on one level deeply concerning, but on another level extremely impressive.

The last revenue sport prize of anything deserving of the name Big Ten goes to our Fighting Illini. I'm not crying, you're crying!

Let this now and forever be known as The Terrance Shannon Jr. Tournament. He just willed us to a championship. And after what he's been through this year, I can't imagine how good he feels right now. Absolutely legendary performance.

Really happy for this team. There have been some frustrating moments, but overall I just flat out like them and wanted to see them cement their legacy with some kind of hardware.

People remember:
2001 (B1G regular season champs)
2002 (B1G regular season champs)
2003 (B1G tournament champs)
2004 (B1G regular season champs)
2005 (duh).

But people rarely talk about 2006. Why? Because they had no hardware. Top 10 in KenPom, top 15 AP, led by an all time great Illini. But nothing to show for it. They're just an artifact of the 2005 team.

Now people will remember the 2024 team for a long time, as they should.

Not done yet.

I lost my mom suddenly on Thursday. She was a huge Illini and Cub fan. I told my family that she would propel the Illini to the Big Ten tourney win. God bless the Illini. Thank you for bringing me joy during a difficult time :)
Sports can touch our hearts in many ways. Thankful you had this game to bring you some joy. Blessings in the days ahead.

Ok...now that I've come down off my roof.....I have some crow to eat.

I used the word soft on this team three weeks ago. I think Brad may have as well.

They responded.

Congrats Illini! You deserve that trophy! 🧡 :illinois:
Your criticism was valid; we are allowed to still critique, and if we eat crow later, then so be it. I know the feeling.

I've been saying for a while now that Goode still needs to see playing time. I truly feel he'll be hitting a clutch three-pointer in these crucial games.

Love the hustle as well. Just keep TY out there to close out games, though.
