I always wondered how big of an effect getting Fletched has on one's shooting until they get used to their new strength since there's so much reliance on muscle memory. I don't doubt Will might be struggling with that a bit and it might be similar in some ways to Podz's shot just not going his freshman year.

That said, an even larger part of it is going up against longer faster and far more physical competition that makes you work a lot harder to attempt a far more uncomfortable shot. It's a tale as old as time in the B10- highly rated freshman recruit shoots lights out against scrub schools in the non-con, then gets to conference play and can't buy a shoot looking overwhelmed most of the minutes they play. Simply life in the B10. There's a reason why B10 seniors salivate when they see freshies- 95 times out of 100 they bully them all game and take their lunch money

But really, even if bulking up is the sole reason for Will's struggles, his parents need some perspective. The only way Will performs well in the league is by getting a lot more strength on him. So whether he's putting it on in college or putting it on in the NBA, either way, he's going to have to deal with it. Better to deal with it now, take the offseason to strengthen up and get used to the new body, light it up next year and be a lottery pick.
Amen, my engineering brother.

If I'm taking 300 jumpers a day while I'm getting stronger daily under the barbell I can't see how the marginal change in strength day to day would ever effect my shot.

Yes, if I lift hard for three months and rarely pick up a ball during that time it would require a period of adjustment once I begin again to shoot everyday. But none of these guys do this. They play almost every day to some extent, even in the off-season (BTW, does an off-season exist anymore?) It's why this entire claim about lifting heavy disturbing the delicate calibration of shooting seems absolutely spurious.

I recall well lifting in HS and then going outside to shoot. Yes, my arms felt odd, of course, because I'd just finished taxing them heavily. Then after I recovered they felt fine when I shot.

See: Jim Rowinski... walk-on to BT MVP at Purdue in the '80s. (And an Illini bête noire back in the day. R.I.P.) The entire reason why he was able to make that leap is because he got strong as he!! during his four years there. I've said it previously and gotten absolutely dragged for it: our players need to be much stronger, if for no other reason than to injury-proof them. These guys are literally genetic freaks; their off-the-charts neuromuscular efficiency makes what they're leaving on the table in this area dismaying.

If it is then that's even worse. The kid is supposed to have pro dreams and is too skinny for college ball.

He's going to need to add a lot more strength and explosiveness if he wants to achieve that lottery pick ceiling.
My understanding is that his family wants him to stay at Illinois for a second year. I read it right here in Loyalty, so it must be true.

Y'all, it was just a hard box out. Nothing dirty about it. Complete effort play. Heck, he would've been (and was) cheered for the same effort while he was here and he was the only one on Indiana playing that way -- that play should be a compliment to what Brad instills in his players, rather than an indictment on Luke. He was playing his butt off when the game was out of hand, while other Indiana players couldn't even be driven to play hard when the game was close.

Bigger picture: can we learn to not immediately turn on players that left this program, especially ones that were important contributors for several years? Luke invested his heart and soul while here and then wanted to go home. All of that is laudable in my book. If you're trashing him because he's suddenly wearing a different jersey, I think it says a whole lot more about you than it does him.
The Problem isn’t that Luke left the program, it’s where he went!!!!🤡

Goode plays hard as hell, which sometimes means he's involved in contentious plays. But it's generally always just making aggressive basketball plays, not being a hooligan. He's got a good head on his shoulders (minus the whole Indiana thing).

I still can't root for him of course. Not while he wears the clown pants.

Players do not come here to sit. They come here to PLAY....

You put the peddle through the floor and bury the other team, and reward the best players by allowing them to do their thing. Are you looking for a fair fight? No way!! However, if they're not playing well, or if there's someone who earned more playing time in order to develop, that's a different story.

But just to let others play? Not how the big boys do it.... We are not handing out participation rewards. They earn playing time and jealously guard it.

I am not going to pat these guys on the back yet. They played a great 1st half thanks to probably an !!! chewing by Brad. If you look at the 2nd half, it wasn't great. The Illini shot just 28% 9 for 32, 3/13 from 3, were outscored 37-34. Ivisic scored 2 points, KJ sat on the bench with 4 fouls and scored just 2 points. Tre had an off night. It was KB, Dra and Ben who battled the Hoosiers in the 2nd half. The Illini was able to withstand a struggling Hoosier team at the foul line and Boz who put this team on HIS back down the stretch.
This game is what they should have done to SC. Instead they slept in on a Saturday morning.
I am not going to pat them on the back because they haven't shown they can put together back-to-back games against top competition. Maybe Brad should chew their butts again on the poor effort in the 2nd half of this game.
If they don't bring a full effort for 40 MINUTES in East Lansing MSU will bury them. Then and only then will I pat them on the back.
Which team will we see on Sunday? The one in the SC game and the 2nd half team tonight or the team we saw in Oregon, PSU and the first half of this game?
I bet you're a real joy to be around. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: An entirely brand new team at 13-4 with some big wins... a couple of duds for sure, but man, how can you not be excited? Especially after absolutely obliterating the Loosiers.

Outstanding! And so close to my first (failed) attempt at it....it was just the Block I running over the Hawkeye. I also tried Brad running over crying Juwan.
It just never came out this good!
Then I would get frustrated, or see a squirrel.

Feel free to execute the crying Juwan example!!!

I know that Dan Dakich isn't popular here but right now on his radio program, is brutally bashing Luke Goode! I guess Luke made comments to Hoosier fans "to not get back on the band wagon when they turn this thing around". Also Coach Underwood will be on his program in a bit.
