Interesting observation on second watch:

We had ~14 points off cuts to the basket, all in the first half. Minnesota had to respect our movement off the ball in the second half which I think paved the way for some easy iso buckets.
Darn right. It looked great! It’s almost cliche to say back door cut and Pete Carril/Princeton in the same sentence. But that first half, that’s pretty much what it looked like. (there is one VERY similar set and action similar to Carmody/Carril that we’re suddenly going to more…maybe just emphasizing more? Whatever it is…I like it!)

We seen how well continually attacking the rim when a team is packing the paint worked out against U Con in the Elite 8. During and after that game fans were screaming for the team to shoot the 3. You have to take what the D is giving you. Draining outside shots will definitely help open the paint.
No one argues with that sequencing, it’s just when we are NOT hitting 3s and insist on keep chucking them that some of us get our panti$s in a wad.

in fairness, if you watched our tape, you would just ring all of your defense around the 3pt line and not move from there. This was a pretty major deviation from what we've been doing all season.

We suck. Do we? I’m confused now

There are clearly two completely different Illini roundball teams this season. They are having fun with us game in and game out playing with our affections.

They look exactly the same... they wear the same uniforms... they play on the same floors... but there are two of each of them.

We never know which squad is going to show up at game time because they look alike. They look alike that is... until the game begins and we start to see which version of Our Beloved showed up that day.

The question is: Which version of the Illini will show up in March?

Good eyes my friend … Good eyes …

Oh you’ve only made 8 threes the whole year … Congrats … You’ve earned a career best performance against Illinois … 😂
Indy, when do we get a 3rd high power AC who’s also a good X’s and O’s guy? Tired of glorified GA’s scouting our opponents. O and Geoff have proven their worth and then some, but if we are a big time team, we need a bball mastermind with decent recruiting expertise in a geographic area not already in house. Coming???

Here is the resume for Underwood, Hamer, and Jones

Underwood - 2 season director of scouting and recruiting Illinois (this is not the resume of a Big Ten assistant)

Hamer - 1 year video coordinator Indiana Fever, 1 year coaching associate LA Lakers, 1 year advance scout for defense LA Lakers, 2 years video coordinator Illinois, 2 years assistant to the head coach Illinois. (this is not the resume of a Big Ten Assistant)

Jones - 2 years graduate manager Illinois, 1 year video coaching associate Sacramento Kings, 1 season director of operations Stephen F Austin, 1 season director of recruiting and scouting Illinois (this is not the resume of a Big Ten assistant)

None of these guys has the experience necessary to be a Big Ten assistant, and it's not like any of them are ace recruiters. I get Anderson left at a bad time, but what exactly is Underwood thinking here? Luke Yaklich is unemployed. He would seem a better choice.

Last night needs to be the blueprint going forward. Having watched the game today, drive and kick got higher quality 3 attempts with guys in rhythm more. Analytically, it’s still a good offense with close, high quality 2s and then open 3s after drawing defenders on the drive.

It was just so much more fluid, instinctive, and efficient last night.

I’m sorry but I have such a hard time believing that none of: Orlando, Geoff, Chester, Tim, and Chin have virtually nothing to offer to the world of X’s and O’s…a mean not even worthy of the occasional SLOB or BLOB or special?

They’ve been around hoops their whole lives. They’ve had varied experiences and have been around other coaches that they can plagiarize. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. It seems like a strange dynamic to me.
