Illinois 97, Missouri 73 Postgame

#126
I was watching the post game interview with TSJ and celebration that happened after. While looking at Amani he didn't seemed to be really engaged with the team in celebrating. I could be reading more in to this, BUT only 5 min. play time could be part of it. Lets hope that he's not too dissatisfied with play time and looks elsewhere.

That was FUN.....................it really really was.....................This was a game with a well coached team running a smooth offense against a hero ball conglomerate of befuddled hicks.........Our PG issue is non existent as it has been all season as Ty has done a wonderful job of bringing the ball up against pressure and starting the offense..........

Our starting 5 is tough and battle tested with an Alpha Male in TSJ , a veteran do it all in Cohawk , a savvy MAN in Quincy Gerrier , another veteran and bully ball specialist in Domask and the ultimate energizer bunny in Ty Rodgers.......We have veterans off the bench .............................

TSJ with a double-double................
QG with 28 & 8.................
MD with almost a triple -double.........
cohawk with an excellent floor game........
Ty is doing everything BU wants him to do and is relenless on the court..............

BU post game remarks...................

We were spectacular on defense..............
TSJ left no doubt on who was the best player on the court.......30 pts , 11 rebs, 4 assists and only 1 TO.............
cohawk with a great 1st half.................
Quincy with 28 pts and 8 rebs...........a man through and through..........He as violent a driver to the basket as I have ever coached...
dominant performance on the glass.....51-35............
Marcus is an excellent shooter.....I got made when he turned down a 3 in the second half......
this group is fun to have fun with........chemistry is sky-high..........

I hope coach can figure out a way to get Dain more minutes

I want him to play hard and happy for Illinois for a while.

Yeah, only negative I could come up with from the game was Dain sitting so much. Especially since the last play I think he made was a really nice seal to open up a drive for Shannon. I assume he will get a lot more time when we are facing our Big Ten schedule and the big guys that come with it, but in today's world I have stopped thinking as much about what happens if a guy doesn't play enough this year. I've seen too many guys get a ton of minutes and still transfer. I hope he stays, but this team is so good he is probably not going to be getting the minutes he would like. Just the way it looks at this point.

Amani played really well while in there tonight.

KenPom: 16 to 8
Two big reasons for the jump. The first being the sheer dominance on a neutral court. The 2nd being that now that we're at 11 games, the preseason metrics are no longer a significant component of rating (it's still a minor one for a little while longer though) and as we've been significantly overperforming our preseason expectations we're technically slightly even better in Kenpom's system than it's currently showing. Hell of a win tonight and hell of a season this far.

We can say all we want about it, but a saw a kid playing hard out there and the moment I choose to take away from this one is where he outmuscled a Mizzou player to get a held ball and Luke and Ty celebrated with him as he smiled. Amani is earning minutes. And based on how Dain has been playing, I think Amani is gaining Underwood's trust to cut into some of the time Dain is losing.

This. I like Dain, but he’s three years out of high school. If I had to choose between Dain or Amani being happy come portal season, I would vastly prioritize Amani.
AH hustles, doesn't mind getting knocked around to get a rebound and will definitely be a solid role player that can add to the team concept. I don't see that with Dain; I know he's lost weight and has worked hard, but I don't see him really "fitting" in at the present time.

And he looked like Lightning McQueen running the floor while he was in!
