Illinois 97, Missouri 73 Postgame

Yeah, I think those 80s and 90s games are why I have lost some interest in this rivalry. Those Norm Stewart Missouri teams were usually pretty good and both teams were often ranked which helped create that Final Four atmosphere. Nowadays beating Missouri feels more like beating any mid-level college team. I know this will generate howls of protest but I think Illinois should replace Missouri with a team that is more consistently ranked until Missouri can turn their program around and be a consistently better, or ranked team, too. A better team would hopefully create that Final Four atmosphere again.
"Illinois should replace Missouri with a(nother) team..."

.... like Kentucky!

No question that the rank of this rivalry varies by location and to some extent age. In the StL metro area it is big, I suspect in Chicagoland maybe not as much. Older fans remember the Stormin Norman/LouDoo days with fondness when both teams were top 25 and the game atmosphere was as intense as a FF matchup. Gates has a top 10 class coming in next yr so things could get interesting again pretty quickly.

I was 100% with you until your mention of Northwestern, who aren't even in my top 5 list of rivals (Mizzou, Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan).

I get annoyed when my own grandparents, whose two kids and two of their grandkids went to Illinois and have no progeny who attended Mizzou, make positive remarks about Mizzou. The Mizzou spin machine in the St. Louis area is pervasive.
Iowa, Iowa, Michigan and Arizona are my must-beats. Did I mention Iowa? F-U Satan!!

I respect Izzo and Painter - I can't hate them; I appreciate what they bring to the B1G brand. Love to beat them.
Always a treat to beat Wisky and Clownpants. I put Mizzou here.
NU, PSU, Maryland, Rutgers - meh. Just win baby.
Minny, Neb, super meh.

If Shaka stays at Marquette, it would be great to start a Chicago-Milwaukee-Champaign cycle. Play home-home and add a Chicago game to build the rivalry.

What's the old saying? "A lie travels halfway around the world before the truth can put its boots on." :ROFLMAO: ;)

I have been going to the Braggin Rights since the mid 80s. 35 years ago, I took my 8 year old son to his first BR game, and it was the Flyin Illini team. He has been hooked ever since. This weekend, he flew in to StL with his 8 year old son for his first BR game. He saw what I hope to be a special team like the Flying Illini was. He was looking bored until the game started, and then he was fully into it, screaming at the top of his lungs, hopefully starting his lifelong fandom of the Illini. Special weekend, echoes in time.

Now that’s what I call generational wealth!

I’ve been closely watching Sencire every time the camera pans the bench. He looks like he’s genuinely enjoying the run and that says so much an about the type of person he is.
Watch the post game scrums. He'll fight through teammates just to get next to BU.

Once again if you actually watched the game you’d realize that MO went to a different offense set in the 2nd half, played a lot of booty ball, which opened up some outside shots. So yeah, statistically and to the naked eye, the D clearly was not as sharp the 2nd half. Did anyone suggest that ALL 1st half misses were b/c of stifling D? No. But if you couldn’t see some lockdown pressure in this first half you’re just ridiculously negative or a parody account.
You probably also think Missouri played great defense against Domask from distance. Like Domask who had open looks so did Missouri. Overall our defense was good but Missouri not hitting open 3's impacted the blowout win. Similar to Illinois' loss in 22.

I think Domask showed his maturity by finding other ways to score, even when his 3pt shot wasn't falling.
