Nice write-up from Norlander triggered from the game last night, looking back on Underwoods tenure at Illinois (in the middle of the article):

THIS ARTICLE IS A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD. SCROLL DOWN TO THE ILLINI STORY.

LOL... I know...

Even if we change this to use Grandison instead of Ayo as the example being made, I think you could easily argue FAU has better without Boyd. With him in the lineup, they are 2-1 with wins over Loyola Chi and Eastern Michigan and lost to... wait for it... Bryant University. With him out of the lineup, they are 5-1 with wins over Butler, Virginia Tech, #12 Texas A&M, Liberty and Charleston and the one loss to #20 Illinois. His shooting percentages are terrible and they've played much better without him. The guy that replaced him in the starting lineup (Martin) has averaged 17 points per game in those 6 games without Boyd.
Lol, now is our of your system or do I have to send you another Frozen gif?

Literally just got to that above sequence after Dan's post. CoHawk sequence.

3:00 mark and we are only up two. CoHawk hits his open 3...(that i'm guessing a lot of us thought at the time was a dagger)...but FAU goes down and answers immediately.
Next trip down is the above MLTulip mentioned possession.

Then he defends Goldin the next trip down forcing a missed hook before he gets bailed out on a put back foul...missing 2 FT's OMG FREE NUGGS!!
Where are you rewatching? Or did you record it?

All I will say about Coleman Hawkins is I would like to see him get called for a foul and for ONCE not complain to a ref, and believe me I'm not the only who thinks this
I think this fan base would embrace Coleman a whole lot more if nothing changed about him (good and bad plays) except his on-court demeanor. Too much whining, and then too many times when he does something great and takes a moment of game time to celebrate. He had a great steal on Goldin in the first half and could've turned around and started moving the ball up the court. Instead, he took a moment to scream/celebrate while FAU's defense had a bit more time to get the defense set and stop any potential transition action.

I'm quite ashamed to have a ESPN+ subscription...because F ESPN.

But it was gun to my head from NHL when they moved their Center Ice over....so I can watch Stars games.

My ESPN programming boycott continues on forever. Only tune in for games I'm forced to.

Last night he got called for a foul and he said he got hooked. He kept going up the refs with the arm motion he was hooked. Even if you did move on, the refs aren't going to change it. He spent at least 2 minutes going up to the refs talking about how he was hooked. MOVE ON DUDE . Stay focused

Great job Matt Norlander, very tuned in with Illini bb and beyond. Is BU not getting the credit he deserves?
I think BU gets a little more hate than he deserves, but it is a travesty how poor this team has performed in the post season.

All that being said if a “down” year in the BU era is a 9 seed first round loss, sandwiched by a couple protected seed apps to go along with having the winningest BIG program in the past 4 years… I’ll take it until he wants to call it quits.

Have you seen some of the posts on here regarding the refs and the calls.....before the game, during the game, of EVERY GAME?

Hawk complaining about calls falls right in line with some of our fans. We have the whole stone and glass houses dynamic going on here.

Let's take our O & B glasses off for a QUICK second. Mine will be going back on shortly. Have to give Wisconsin credit. They've had a very good preconference. They've played a tougher schedule and steamrolled a team that we lost to. As we sit here TODAY, there's no reason to take issue with that. Let's see how everything plays out. Glasses back on.
Giving them credit is fair, they did beat Marquette while we obviously lost to them. But they also got worked by a very average Providence team. Oh, Michigan State also isn’t good. I think the eye test isn’t close, we have TSJ and they do not. I’d say anybody who calls Wisconsin the better team right now isn’t paying attention 🤷‍♂️

I hope Shannon and Domask eat Purdue's guards alive when we play them. Should be an epic game.
Just to add to the PG debate, who would you rather have Brandon Smith or Ty. One scores and is abused on defense. The other doesn’t score but abuses the opponents offense. To me a clear choice of what you want your team to look like.

Lol. For real though, we have nothing better to do. He's literally on the court.

I get the 'enough is enough' with fans whining about refs. But the above is a false equivalence. Those posters can climb on the rooftops with a bullhorn and complain and it will not affect the gameplay. A player exhibiting that behavior will absolutely influence future calls, at the least at the subconscious level of the ref. And repeated behavior of the same will build a reputation.

Those outbursts need to be contained to legitimate bad calls, and should mostly come from the coach anyway. Then you might get a makeup call later if the ref knows he made a mistake. Coleman at this point of his career will probably never get one of those.

Edit to +1 @Frank for the lesson in brevity! ;)

My post was tongue in cheek. I agree with you. If you're throwing your arms up at every call, you'll never get the benefit of the doubt on one.

I'll take option 3. Let Domask, TSJ and Harmon dominate the ball and put Ty on one of the opposing teams top scorers, be physical, crash the glass and get the ugly buckets. That's where Ty's value lies. He can be the 2023-2024 version of Sergio McClain and that would be a damn good thing for us.

In general I agree with this. There are several areas where I see room for significant growth/improvement for Illinois. However, FAU's ceiling goes way up just if Goldin is able to play for 30 minutes a game. Very impressed with skills he showed tonight.
For whatever reason he plays 22mpg this year and 21mpg last year. Probably because of foul trouble? He is averaging 6.7 fouls per 40 minutes.

Was great to see the Illini get a solid win over a top opponent. It was even better that we did it without hoisting up three pointer after three pointer. Great game plan using the size of our guards to our advantage. Great games by Shannon and Domask. Solid outings from Harmon and Lukes defense. Our roll players excepting and excelling at their jobs. Would love for a point guard so Ty could play down low more. But no complaints last night.
