Well everyone else has expressed their thoughts so might as well say what I think too..

JP has been fantastic the past game and final drive vs. Minny.. However he did have a full summer training camp to win the starting position and did not.. Luke won the starting job and i believe the BB is correct in starting him against the Squakeyes. If this had happened after the PS game where Luke was pulled from the game because of his performance then JP becomes the starter then. But I do not believe you lose your position due to an injury. If you start Luke you give him a short leash, if he under performs then you make the change. I am sure BB and Looney already have a plan in their minds to do what is best overall for the team to win this game.. It is to meaningful of a game to just say we are staying with Luke period. I respect BB in clearly setting a standard, now no matter the position he has to maintain that standard. I as a player want the coach to have my back in case of an injury that would make me sit, know when healthy i would get my start again. I don't think this affects the other players as much as some here think, I believe it only makes the team stronger.

Yes and please can Fagin be healthy to play.
I agree that LA needs to be respected as the QB that won the starting job and is the future. I like what he has to offer. But, right now we have THE hot player in college football. The future QB (a Soph-O-more) playing his first college football was just concussed less than 2 weeks ago. Starting John Paddock is a no-brainer right now.

Some insomnia last night led me to lots of deep thoughts about this moment for BB. Whatever the decision, it could actually be a defining moment of his coaching career here. Going through all of the scenarios...they all lead to an outcome that we will all talk about until we are old(er) and grey(er).

Insomnia Logic

1.Start Luke, does ok to great, win. = Genius, he knew all along, fans/media are dumb
2.Start Luke, does ok doesn't get pulled, lose. = Questionable, fans/media are all over him and "fire Lunney Jr."
3.Start Luke, struggles, get's pulled, win. = Smart decision, tough look for LA, fans/media "told you so"
4.Start Luke, struggles, get's pulled, lose. =Questionable, really tough look for LA, fans/media "fire Lunney Jr."

5.Start JP, does ok to great, win. = Genius, fans/media "well duh, it's John MF Paddock"
6.Start JP, does ok, doesn't get pulled, lose. = Questionable, fans/media "fire Lunney Jr."
7.Start JP, struggles, gets pulled, win. = Smart decision, best look for LA after #1, fans/media "Luke is our future! we're going bowling!"
8.Start JP, struggles, gets pulled, lose. = Smart decision, not questionable, 3rd best outcome for LA, "we might lose to NW. Fire Lunney Jr."

405 posts before yours, 401 of which concern the QB choice. We need some variety. Anyone have thoughts on autumn composting? Any references to using waste products from horse enclosures are prohibited.
But . . . but . . . but we have so much horse manure here on Loyalty!

If Luke starts, how many hard hits (sacks, scrambles) is he allowed before BB has to pull him for his own protection?

Color me surprised if Paddock does not start from the couple of things I have heard. We will see though. Can't wait to be there, should be a fun one

My official color of surprised will be "gobsmacked". It's a weird green and purple combo with spots of red.

I'm 89% sure pruman has curtains this color!;)

I hope this does happen, especially with DeJean out, it POSSIBLY could open some things up downfield, and Paddock is on a streak.

Not even mentioning that a bad game could really mess with Luke's confidence, and he is the future (and I believe he will be one of the best QBs we've seen in years at Illinois).

Just no upside to starting Luke other than an old rule about starters and injury. If we do start Paddock it will be mostly based on his performance, which was revealed only coincidentally via Luke’s injury. Does anybody really believe LA would have outperformed JP the last two games?

It’s a team sport so the entire team should support starting/playing whoever is most likely to help us win. Get the win.

How about this for some variety, I just hope we can stop Iowa's offense! Win or lose it would be pretty embarrassing for them to put up any kind of numbers against us. If they score more than 21 I'll be unhappy for sure.
