If everything works out that I am reading in the recruiting thread, this team HAS to make the tournament next year. Eliminate all talk of do we or don't we keep Groce.

If what they are talking about in the recruiting thread happens and you fire Groce then those recruits will ask out of their LOIs and they won't come here.

Besides this year, we were one of the better defensive teams in the conference in the other seasons. As for the offensive system, he's had a tough time adjusting to a roster with below average point guards and extreme lack of depth at the post, but that's more of a recruiting flaw and terrible luck IMO. Most coaches would struggle with our point guards and lack of post players. He'll get another year to show what he can do.
I think Groce struggles with adjustments. So many times this year we'd start out like a house on fire and then we'd have the inevitable 5 minute scoring drought where it looked like we had no flow or plan.

Now, maybe that is the result of not having a true PG to command the offense, but Groce's rotations were kind of the same way. He has a plan going in and sticks with it no matter what.

That's my point. Make the tournament and Groce's future wont even be a discussion. Miss it, and we play the fire him because we have missed the tournament x number of year in a row, or keep a coach we no longer want, but have to keep because a good recruiting class is coming in. Just make the tournament. put that on a wrist band. JMTT

That happens with a thin bench.

Actually I think those droughts reduced towards end of year. Team has to have confidence to break those funks. JCL confidence deserves to be high going into next year...he progressed incredibly well.

Plus now he actually has an offseason to improve as well, something he didn't really get last year. Now let's just hope he gets into the COB!

I'm looking forward to seeing how DJ Williams and Michael Finke improve on their game during the off-season. I think those two could be the x-factors for next season, IMO.

COB being College of Business? I knew he was trying to study Accounting at U of I. If he is trying to transfer from LAS (or elsewhere) it is a pretty tough task.

I transferred in after my Freshman year. The advisors told me that I would need at least a 3.75 to have a realistic shot at being accepted. Had a 3.93 when I transferred. Hopefully he's been working hard in the classroom!

Tracy Abrams squatted 308lbs today and was also doing box jumps. Also, anyone with Twitter needs to see what Coach Fletcher did to LaTulip's body.

Our team is gonna look very different, physically, after an entire off season with Fletch. Need to get Leron, Nunn and Tate back so they can get to work asap as well.

What makes Fletcher so different than past S&C coaches? This is a serious question. This area is not something I know much about.

Just like everything else, some strength and conditioning coaches are better than others. Having great facilities is a plus, but great athletes aren't built by having exceptional facilities.

There are a few reasons why everyone is hyping Fletcher, including myself. The first was his history before coming here. He was at Towson and was showing one player with a 37 inch vertical, another who gained about 9 inches in his vertical jump over I want to say, a year. He showed yet another player who gained 90lbs in his squat max. Having said that, he has a lot of articles on his Twitter account regarding evidenced based practice when it comes to injury prevention, strength building, and explosiveness. Perhaps other coaches train athletes without the evidence to back it up? Lastly, he has already improved the bodies of players in a noticeable way and he hasn't been here a year yet. Morgan's body looks different, Tracy's rehab seems to be going as good as one could expect, and then the there is the changes he made in LaTulip's body. Again, what's impressive to me is he made changes in these players in under a year. How is it that LaTulip spends 3 years with one coach and looks average and then looks pretty ripped in a few months with another?

Yep. Theres a lot to it. Fletch clearly knows what hes doing. Theres a lot of coaches out there who just have guys in there moving around weight getting minimal results. Seems like thats what we had before. It looks like we have a guy now who has guys in there doing correct exercises with the correct number of sets and reps based on percentages. I dont know what Fletch's role is with nutrition but either he or someone else needs a lot of credit there. You dont change your body without proper nutrition. Whether that be adding size or getting ripped or both. Nutrition is 80%+ of the journey.

That video of Abrams is nice but squatting has nothing to do with Achilles rehab

Huh? Find me one article on players rehabbing after an achilles injury that doesn't feature squatting.

I assume you don't squat. Since you're asking, there is also a video of him doing box jumps and a short, yet brisk run as well.

Tying it together with the comments above, I'm excited to see what an off-season with Fletcher will do for Finke and DJ (and Jordan). Put 10-12 solid pounds on any of them and things get kind of interesting.
