I'm sure Michigan fans still love him because of this:

If we have enough scholarships I don't see too many downsides to him coming here. Worst case scenario is that he doesn't play. Illinois was one of the first schools to offer him before his recruitment took off.

If we take a full class and over sign by three, how close are we to the 85 scholarship limit? We obviously have bigger needs. It doesn't look like there is a DE graduate transfer out there but a WR would be nice.

It would also be nice to have some wiggle room to give a walkon like Brandon Roberts a scholarship. He could be on the depth chart in the fall.

Scout shows 59 on the roster, including Philips. That assumes no one leaves between now and the start of the season. So as it sits, 26 open spots to fill.

The point of my post was not about Michigan, but that he has serious interest in Illinois. But he is not hearing from the coaching staff, which is disappointing.

I don't see it as a major disappointment, personally, I'd rather be focusing on developing our younger linemen than 1 (2?) year guys, especially not ones with a bit of a history

LTT made a mistake as a kid, he has learned from it and deserves a second chance. All he wants is an opportunity to at least speak to the administration and staff about potentially playing for the Illini. He would even be willing to walk on. He is going to play somewhere, why not at home for us? Win now and long term not just develope. You can never go wrong with a top quality OT.

Intend to agree with being open to giving LTT a shot, the very least hearing him out. Obviously, he made a mistake. But if he has tried to turn things and truly shows remorse for his actions then I would lean towards giving him a shot. I've never done anything like he did but I sure as heck have been given second chances in life and I'm grateful for that. I trust that Lovie will make the right call, though. Kid is definitely talented.

I tend to agree with the second part of this sentence. However, I believe he was 20 at the time of the incident. Hardly a kid in my eyes...

I do not know what this guy has done in the past, and all individuals have there own rates-of-progress-to-adulthood, but I do know that I have a 19.5 daughter that believes she is an adult, and I do know that she is not, speaking as her father.

I don't have a problem with him getting a second chance (he got one at Akron, fwiw). The issue is that we have bigger needs at other positions.

We'll see how the scholarship situation is in February. I was expecting more guys to transfer from Illinois but if it's only three I would rather see that scholarship go to an incoming recruit that is going to be here for 4-5 years or a graduate transfer on the other side of the ball (preferably front 7). If he was a DL it'd be a no brainer.

He knows he made a mistake and believes he was immature then. Since then he has done a lot of growing up. He has graduated and is now engaged. He is focused on continuing his education, career, and becoming a better man. We can either have an OT with NFL size and ability or not. I know he would prefer to play for Illinois over the others if the opportunity was presented. Family is important to him and their is nothing like playing close to home.

I'm glad he's got his life back on track. I'll root for any Peoria kid (I'm a Richwoods graduate)and like you said he's not going to have a problem finding a place to play next year. I was really hoping we'd land him out of high school but he had offers to play pretty much anywhere. Great size and athleticism.

Out of HS would have been nice, but would you have committed to a Beckman? 😳 I honestly liked OSU for him but his heart was set on Michigan at the time.

I would have committed to Illinois, not necessarily TB, but I didn't have the options that LTT did. I thought he had family in Michigan or am I thinking of someone else?

why would you not want this protecting your QB?

I was hoping we would get him this past summer. I am not sure I like a guy that bails on the team that game him a second chance though. I suppose if he thinks he could get an NFL shot if he is at a bigger school I could see that. But I don't think that is needed any more.

A lot of smoke about Estes and Minnesota right now as well. We are starting to strikeout now after all the momentum we had. Lets hope we don't lose Epstein and a few others that teams are coming after now. We need to hold on to what we have and just hope we get lucky with a few higher ranked prospects.

If it is Estes only, we really don't need him. We have two QB's and two really good ones we are after for next year. But who else does it influence. I would like to get Knight and Thomas if we could.

I'm not feeling good about Thomas right now either. All the CB's lately have been to Miami.

He originally commited to Western Michigan so that would make sense.
