Plus he's a pro style passer.

However, he will transfer to a school that would otherwise be recruiting the guy that we end up taking. A quarterback carousel can only help us.

Rivals has him as a Dual threat. Both 247 and espn did too but then it seems they switched him over to "pro-style" after committing to Alabama I guess (or at some point anyways). The scouting reports over the summer refer to him as dual threat.

But yeah I don't think we have a chance here.

He'd have to sit out for a year as well. That doesn't help you as much for next year...

Illini offer Quran Hafiz.

Hudl page: http://www.hudl.com/profile/3011560/quran-hafiz

Doesn't look the fastest, but does look AGGRESSIVE.

What I really liked about his tape is he is making plays on guys that aren't his man. You can see he has his head up on a swivel, is able to read the play and know where the ball is going. Great instincts and awareness, he is breaking on the ball early. Plus he looks physical as well. Didn't seem like the best athlete but a real football player.

I agree with all this. once here he can get bigger stonger and even a little faster, but he is bringing the part of being a football player that we need and that's skill. I like him and hope we get him

This one is interesting. So far, many posters in the know have been saying we are taking athletes and then spending the right amount of time to form them into a position. Quran is the opposite (according to the analysis on this board). He is good at football/his position and will need time to become a better athlete.

I wonder if Lovie et al. see something athletically that we don't or if they are being flexible with their recruiting strategy in order to not miss out on this guy.

The recruiting tiers are probably something like this:

1. Awesome athlete/great football skills - 5 star/high 4 stars that everyone wants
2. Great athlete/needs coaching up - some 4 stars and a lot of 3 stars
3. Average athlete/incredible football smarts - probably mostly 3 stars
4. Everyone else

Depending on the coach/philosophy, categories 2 and 3 might be interchangeable. I'm guessing Quran falls into category 3 (based on the analysis here) and that is still better than someone in category 4.

Does anyone know if the staff has offered a scholarship to Jacardia Wright from Decatur? He is only a sophomore but he has power 5 schools all over him. I seen he was on Werners reciting front page the other day but I'm not a premium member. We need to get on him hard cuz he is gonna be a beast. Can't let these players out the backyard.

I think most see him as a good athlete just not super fast. being athletic and being fast are to very different things

About 6'2 200lbs. Rb and Safety. Was max preps 1st team freshman all American last season as a safety.- they said he could have been as a rb as well- And he isnt playing safety this year, hes moved to olb. The satff wants to reduce the amount of helmet to helmet big hit possibilities. If we offer we can get him. He said. Iowa and Michigan and Florida State have been in contact. I go to every St T game so I can keep you guys updated. He has been steamrolling everyone. Then when you remember he is only a sophomore, its like, holy cow. They have another sophomore cb/s in Stanley Rodgers who has also been very good.

Michael O'Brien ‏@michaelsobrien 9m9 minutes ago Brother Rice knocks off Mount Carmel in a (deadline nightmare) thriller: http://suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2016/09/30/obrien-brother-rice-knocks-mount-carmel-thriller/ …

Brother Rice’s offense has been one of the state’s most impressive units all season. Smalling, an Illinois recruit, may be the area’s most electrifying player. . . The second score, a 55-yard touchdown reception, was one of the season’s true highlight moments. Smalling caught the ball at the 50 and dodged and darted his way past seven different Mount Carmel defenders.
“That’s just speechless,” Brother Rice coach Brian Badke said. “He’s really developed into a better leader. [Illinois] has a special player.”

Am really glad we didn't go after QB Allen from St.Thomas as a pocket passer I was very unimpressed by him
