"Re-calibrate" is the new word of the day. Everyone needs to learn and get used to it.

JW needs to make it a hash tag for the entire athletic program at UoI.

It's a great word. So science-y. So "Engineering at Illinois"

It is not so much as a kid is on Illinois' radar - which is very, very important - but if Illinois is on a kid's radar. The quality of such kids and their numbers should worry a lot of other coaches.

Yeah. I think we'll have a top 3 in the Big Ten this year. Why would we not? ;):D:thumb:

:chief::shield:

Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State are good reasons. I could totally seè 20-25 but #4 in the Big Ten. If Illinois has a top 25 class we should be very happy.

Is there any good sites that shows all of the offers to football recruits? I know that there is a thread in the basketball forum for scholarship offers to players and I'm assuming that there are far too many to do that with football. Just curious if there is somewhere to see the offers extended

I like 247sports.com, you can break them out into offers, visits, and it gives a nice little meter to tell you the interest level. Ok, the meter is crap and so is the crystal ball thingy they do, but the info on visits and offers is pretty solid.

We should be over the moon. OSU and Michigan are obviously in their own league right now and Franklin is so Ron Zook right now.

Looks like the first offer given out by Lovie.

A very good start. I can hear it now. "Son, you are going to play for the coach that made me a pro-bowl linebacker"

"Dad, I want to play for the coach who helped make you a pro bowl linebacker." Has a little better ring to it if you ask me. ;)

Love seeing Lovie reach out to Epstien and talk with him. He's been blowing up of late and has offers from Michigan, West Virginia, and Syracuse.

Speaking of Syracuse, any thoughts on kentrail Moran? Bellamy recruited him, right.. But now we have Lovie.

Might still be in play for Illinois after all. Still hasn't signed.

From what I had heard of his situation, is he might be an academic casualty. Hopefully for him that's not the case, but if he still hasn't signed with 'Cuse it would seem likely.

From what I know, he hasn't taken the ACT yet. Core classes are good. If he gets the score needed on the test, he would still like to be an Illini. Staff needs to just stay in contact, let the chips fall and be ready to grab him if he qualifies.

Dom Thieman Wr - led team in yards with the likes of teammates like Sam Bruce and Mike Irvin jr.

Love the Size and film on the two TE Holcombe and Palmer...

If you don't find MJ Mcgriffs film nice...we can't talk about FB together...

DBs Harvey Clayton (dad former NFL player has a first cousins in NFL that is a house hold name) and Evan Jones, like their film very versatile and beautiful size, physical!!

QB Eli Peters film...his first throw in his film is all I needed to see...but gets better as film goes on!!

Kenyon Jackson DT son of Kieth Jackson... Again if you don't like that film then idk the motor on that kid!

Tre Nation 1800+ 34 TD senior year in the South!!! 230lbs sheesh!

LBs Harding, Hanson, Abocrombie...super solid think of the coaching they are about to get.

All these guys where composite 3stars which is what most of the pool is made of! Plus smart enough to qualify for Illinois...

Can't wait!!!

Lovie and Asst Coaches

Lovie and the Asst. Coaches are used to seeing NFL players, they know what kind of athletic and talent packages each player needs at each position to play at the highest level. They will recruit these type of players.

Lovie's teams in college and in the pros quickly improved, defense has been his staple. I'm not sure we will even be 7-5 next year, but I do see us getting much better talent in the following years with the NFL coaches and top level college coordinators we have just hired.

Lovie and his staff have held numerous PRO Days for college players and coaches. Instant credibility for his staff. Lovie is a two time Superbowl coach and named NFL Coach of the Year. I see landing 1-3 5 stars with the majority being high level 3 and 4 Stars.

Good post I agree.

I think we will see a great deal of recruits competing to fill our scholarships rather than us having to convince them.

Something that I don't think gets mentioned enough is the parents of recruits. A lot of us our parents on here, is there a single one of us who would hesitate to send their child to be coached by Lovie? Is there anyone who believes Lovie would jeopardize the health of one of his players in the name of more wins?

There may be better or more famous coaches out there, but there isn't one I would trust more with my kid

Let's take it down a notch here....

I think Lovie will be great coach and I think he has already lit a flame under the !!! of Illini Nation that will not likely be extinguished anytime soon. But... to think he's going to start pulling in 1-3 5 star recruits is getting ahead of ourselves. Each year, there's about 30 5-star recruits. You're suddenly thinking that we're going to be pulling in 10% of the nations 5-star recruits? This year, only three teams pulled in 3 5-stars recruits, and two of them competed in the national championship game.

Don't get me wrong, the players will want to play with Lovie Smith, but the best players are still going to go where the wins are. When Lovie wins, which I'm sure he will eventually (not likely this year), the top tier players will start looking at Illinois. But, unless we're competing for National Championships each year, we'll likely be looking at 1 5-star recruit at best most years.

The rest you said seems way more accurate. If we could constantly be pulling in 4-star and upper tier 3-star guys, we'll be just fine with Lovie coaching.

Along these line, and maybe it's been mentioned already, are there any other unsigned/uncommitted guys that the addition of Lovie we may sway over here? I know we talk a lot about Moran because he was already on our list. Any other guys that weren't that maybe could be added?

How is this possible? Typically kids take the ACT in the spring of their junior year. He's a senior and never taken the ACT? That seems a bit off to me.
