I believe 2006 ranked slightly higher, but 2007 had the highest average player rating. 2006 average player rating was ~2.9.

Our 3 OL recruits are already college-sized!

- 6'5" / 310
- 6'5" / 280
- 6'5" / 336

Great size no doubt. But how much body composition/conditioning work will they need to be ready?

From illinois.247sports.com: "Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain offensive lineman Howard Watkins announced his verbal to Illinois on Monday evening. The Illini beat out the likes of Cincinnati, Illinois and Louisville for one of their top targets in the trenches."

We're so good at recruiting, we're beating ourselves! That's hard to do!

Haha! Good catch.

The only way to beat Lovie is to be Lovie. Get the train rolling boys!

Right. 2 more road graders to get: the 6' 7" Mt. Prospect kid and the East coast kid. That will be the foundation for a VG O line (in the future).

Columns are hot!!!

Is this one of the players they were tweeting about a couple days ago? Or did he only inform the staff shortly before the announcement? Just trying to keep count of columns are hot tweets vs commitments.

I would assume so since he's early enrolling. He probably faxed in his paperwork a few days back.

Isn't it just watkins for us? Carney is assumed but he hasn't committed yet.

I thought the same thing? People are saying Carmoni is a potential early enrollee but we don't even know if he is still coming here.

Is it fair to say that this class will be a major success if we do the following?

-Land Jeff Thomas (#8 WR in America), Owen Carney (#29 DE), and Kendrick Green (#37 DT)

-Bring in a few more Juco and 5th year guys who can step in immediately as starters or top backups

-Fill in the rest of the scholarships with solid 3-star talent

Seems probable at this point! I think we'll be looking pretty good by 2018.

even if we do all those things I wouldn't we should expect much till 2019 but if Lovie and the staff can keep on this level with recruiting 2020 should be very interesting when these young men are SR and RS JR

Nevermind, that's Palczewski. Don't know how good he is other than his size, though he was on a pretty bad team with a decent running game.

Bagner and Boykin are intriguing prospects at DE. I'm guessing Bagner would not be an early enrollee since he is planning on taking his visits in January?

Does Boykin have any other offers besides Illinois? It seems like he had a lot of P5 offers out of high school. Would he even be eligible to play at Illinois in 2017?

Who knows the mix of JC/transfer vs high school recruits? I imagine Lovie and staff will like to be competitive the next couple of years without losing sight of a sustainable winning program. Either way like to see the uptick in recruiting and the players we are involved with.

Scout has him ranked as the #1 OT in Illinois for 2017, when he got noticed scouts and coaches drooled over his size and athleticism. He's high priority for us now and is visiting on Jan 20th.

I think adding Fedd Jackson and/or Palczewski still needs to happen, for one. Additionally, there's really no reason we shouldn't land Roberson at this point. Lastly, flipping Hobbs is a necessity because we need DBs. Getting Roundtree would also be HUGE.

And, personally, I'd like to get a punter.

It depends on the position and who is available. There is a glaring need at DE so you need someone who can play right away.

Del'Shawn Phillips helps immediately with the front 7 on Defense while Lawson can potentially start at QB.

It'll be interesting to see how this class fills out and how we get to 85 scholarships. We will only have 10 Scholarship Seniors on the roster next year which makes me question how big the Class of 2018 can be. Graduate transfers would play one year and then open up a scholarship while JUCO players are 2/3 year guys. There is always attrition but you never know how many players will transfer. The obvious problem is that there just aren't that many Graduate Transfers out there. We can have a full class, over sign by three and still have room for a few Graduate Transfers.

DB isn't quite as desperate as DE in terms of 2017, but once Dunlap leaves, that position is in dire straits as well. Thankfully we found something at FS/SS this season, but we still really really need CBs.
