Great get. Staff hitting its stride
I think that lowers any chance of us getting Luke Ford, which was about 1-1000 chance, Ford has been playing fans for awhile now on twitter been super annoying.
Not at all. Do you really think he is afraid of a player with only 3 power five offers? He is considering Georgia who landed a 5 star TE last year that made the Freshman All American team. Alabama has multiple four star TE already on the the roster.
By the way if we land Verdis Brown he would on the o-line for me to start with liked his tape more there/

I don't follow football recruiting carefully, it is too massive for me to keep up with.
How are we doing in the current year effort?
I have the impression that not long ago we had a thin, not great class.
Is that still the case?
Are we making up ground or falling further behind?
If someone would provide an elevator summary of the current year (the type of story you can tell during an elevator ride), I would appreciate it.
TIA

Surprisingly better than given credit for. Only 2 names pop out on the list Taylor and Myers as big gets. But only 2 pop out as poor gets Pearl and Sandy to me. The other 5 all very reasonably good candidates to help the squad. I know that most like Pearl and Sandy and both could turn out to be better prospects than I have now. Pearl at say 275 and a year more of work on the line could get a real good bump.
For the moment imo we are averaging mid 3* for the 9 guys Probably only slightly lower than last year. A few like Ford, Dunkle, Brown , Lockett and Craddieth would change that in a heart beat. By the way there are probably another dozen names that would fit on that list for the big gets.
You dont like Sandy? I really liked his tape. Not saying that he should be 4 star or something but by no means did I see a "poor get". He is fast and does a great job going up and making catches for a guy his size. But Im no expert.
I agree that Pearl is obviously a project. I think the staff knows that, you just cant teach a big, long 6'7 body. But they can teach him football.I pretty much stand alone on Sandy. But he literally had the lowest rating of anybody I had featured at the slot. There are presently 5 guys that we might and I stress might have a shot at landing that I like more.
By a ton T Collins, then by a lot I Stewart and S Oshadi, followed by C Ford and finally some D Sneed.
For me a very similar situation to Pearl at tackle, the lone difference is with good weight gain and year of experience I see more upside for Pearl.
Coran Taylor has big goals for the upcoming season:

I'm still shocked his stats, game tape, and measurables have not bumped up his rating. Best of luck next season!
That being said, where is the excitement for playing at Illinois? His twitter is almost completely devoid of Illini posts/mentions. I also don't see him reaching out to potential recruits a la Megginson, Boyd, Smalling, etc.. Guess I just expected more.
QB Coran Taylor Peoria- Illinois commit and this was the second camp I've seen him in live this off season. Taylor has all the tools yet I also feel his game is pretty much restricted in these type of settings. Taylor is so much more than just a pocket passer and events like this one really doesn't show his overall value. Taylor was fine here yet I also trust what I've seen live under the lights from Taylor much more than any camp setting this off season.
QB Coran Taylor Peoria- this camp performance was easily the best I've seen this off-season from the Illinois commit. I just get the feeling that Taylor remains a turn on the lights and he's ready to go kinda player, yet Taylor showed me a lot here. Taylor seems to be more and more comfortable as more of a pocket passer at these camps and he's also improved his overall accuracy and touch as well. Taylor's best part of his game I feel remains the run threat...yet the passing game portion is improving all the time as well.

Heck of an article about quarterback target.. decision appears to be on the horizon!
If we get Lowe that's great, but with Coran on board, Cam a here, and Lawson someplace, I think we have bigger needs than QB.
I wouldn't count on Lawson ever getting here.
Given the number of scholarships that were offered to QBs after Coran committed (Hill, Bowman, Mitchell, Foster, Mordecai), it's safe to say that the staff wants another QB. A lot of these guys have committed elsewhere and they've focused in on Lowe.
