Baby steps. Win the B1G West in a couple years (and start getting an appearance in the championship game) and then we can get to "where we need to be."

Let's start with outpacing the weakest division in all P5 conferences.

Well said. My thoughts exactly.

Not sure if anyone mentioned yet but DE/TE prospect TJ Banks will be at the BBQ. Would be top rated commit for this class but tough competition from Maryland, WVU, and Pitt.

Are the guys who come for the BBQ on official visits? They have to be since we feed them right?

I don't think so because last year Carney and Green had to pay their way to the BBQ.

Like Lovie has done you aim for the best. Settle on the best of what you can get. For me Sandy or Pearl is not one of those . Although I do hold much more hope for Pearl, still guys in front of them I would much rather prefer. At ot O Neal, Daniels, Uzebo, Dunkle, Jenkins, are the top nmaes for though there are 3 or 4 names I would place before Pearl.
Slot Collins, Stewart, Oshadi, are the main ones and again about half dozen that fall above Sandy . If you take these guys like Sandy and Pearl you wait on them.

A couple of CBs just went our way for WR Malik Knowles who was just offered and is visiting this weekend:

Another guy I would wait for not a bad tape mind. But nothing that made my mouth water.
I have a list of 14 guys ahead of what I saw in Knowles starting with guys that sound good for us in Adams, and Lockett. While I had several rated higher just don't know if they have any interest.

Obviously we'd all love to have 5 stars etc, but let me switch it up a bit and ask this. If you're gonna take lower level guys, wouldn't speed be the best trait to have, if you only have one? All these guys look so much faster than any Beckman/cubit guys. What say you?

Not so sure on that. No doubt speed is very important there are other times or should I say positions that good speed and a different top trait are acceptable. Example og if he has a enough speed to pull they way you want to on some plays, but can bury his guy every play then I might lean toward that . Which is what Lovie seems to want. Not doubt thou you hit on one of the huge requirements for a player on here.
So you can understand the Knowles comment. He has clearly better than average speed, but on the field I did not see him flash big time speed. As thin as he is my guess is when is 25 - 30# heavier. He will have lost a little. But he is a tough dude for his frame and will get after it as a blocker. So if we don't land a bigger time play maker I am fine with him. A little more so than Sandy. Knowles could be a plus grade possession receiver in that he might still have better than normal speed as a possession guy.

He should be committing this weekend.

I will be upset as in very if they take Atwell and or Knowles during or shortly after the bbq. I go back to Calvin Lockett as as a deep threat instead of Knowles. I see Lockett as a 4* guy who flashes the big play ability and he is said to favor us. I rate 11 guys higher as deep threat , there was 4 or 5 that were interest in us. Now it is a couple others but I would wait until we are clearly out of the picture with them. I will be P O if we take Knowles at least with Lockett out there I doubt they take 3 more guys at slot and wide out.
Though Adams is not a burner, for me he is way better than Knowles. If I could get a commitment from Adams I definitely wait on Knowles.

I noticed a CB went to Iowa for Lockett recently.

Are Adams and/or Lockett visiting this weekend?

The fact that we offered Knowles and are apparently pursuing Atwell may be an indication that the staff doesn't feel that great about other WR recruits?

A few days ago I was comfortable with or Qb situation. I still feel they will find a good quality qb in the mold of what McGee is looking for at the position. However after reading about the academics issues bells are now going off. Taylor was a very good get so the another would make for a very good year for Qb. Now if we lose Taylor can we find or equal or better value ? Just not a good feeling if we do not get Taylor.

You make a valid point . Adams is suppose to come tomorrow, so if we sensed he was about to commit I would wait on Knowles. Let Lockett and a few others play out. Even have some confidence on a few new faves bubbling up after the first 3 or 4 games on seniors tape.

Anyone have a running tally of prospects going to the cookout?

It could get interesting over the next week with Avery set to announce, the BBQ visitors such as Ford, Taylor-Stuart, Banks, Hall, Daniels, Adams, Jackson, Knowles. We'll add a few commits. It would be nice if Ford gets it started & Avery joins his teammate Myers next Friday:ms:

I sure am hoping we add at least 5 guys in the next couple days after this BBQ might be a little depressing if we don't. I am guessing the class should end up at around 19-21 scollies when its all said and done so hopefully another class ranked around the same as last year

Still would love to see us add 2 more OL guys as well as 1 or 2 DTs the rest is gravy in my book, another QB wouldn't hurt either
