I can't make a bold prediction? How about if he doesn't come here I get a ban because I've always wanted to say "I'm back from my ban" and if he does we celebrate getting a good recruit.

I think he was joking that if you are wrong some people on here will jump down your throat for making a lock (even though you made it clear it was just a hunch)

It also appears as though he grasps & enjoys the physicality of the position of WR. You don't see many HS wideouts pancaking people. Love it!
Yes, the highlights show he can run a route and is one tough guy. Maybe the next Dudek? The really important thing is that Mr. Judd wants to be an Illini! I'll take that any day of the week.

My understanding is 16 total scholarships and 10 are already spoken for, correct? So there are 6 more spots to fill. Cooper and Randoph are two of the top targets, but how does everyone expect the other 4 spots to fill up, or how does the staff ideally expect to fill all 16? Any news on the other top targets from 247Sports, like Mathis, Moore, Jackson, or Wright?

I'm guessing that Illinois will add more than 16 new players but that will also include potential transfers.

Mathis very recently changed his twitter pic of himself in an Illini jersey to a Baylor jersey. No bueno.

I heard a stat on the Tay and Carp show that I thought was interesting, considering we are always debating the talent deficit when Lovie arrived. Something along the lines of during Cubit and Beckman era, they brought in 8 top 600 kids. Lovie has brought that many in within his first 3 years, and could possibly bring 6 in with this recruiting class. Just thought that was some positive news for everyone to start their day.

How can we be overly optimistic when its apparent that we will bring in another 12 -15 man freshman class (juco linebackers please)
and immediately turn them over to the big ten wolves? Are we ever going to get to a team of upperclassmen? It will be another tiny
senior class. Before I get the smart !!! replies, yes I can count. As long as there are walk-ons taking spots and upper class defections
this trend will continue.

2020 will be a mostly upper class. The experience the young Gus like Sydney brown and Bobby Roundtree have gotten is priceless. We are going to see big leaps in their level of play on the field. No one that has been around college football a significant amount of time expects freshmen and sophomores to produce winning seasons, but, these teams are growing as players. The culture of the program is shifting. The coaching staff is improving. We will have injuries next season, but the product will be better on the field. At this point, we are striving to qualify for bowl games. Soon we will strive for consistent bowl games and then We will strive for Big Ten West titles. You have to stay the course. Give coaches 5 years. If they fail. Terminate them and give the next person 5 years. Anything less will cause problems in recruiting, stability, etc.

upper class defections

Put yourself in the kids' shoes. 3-4 seasons of massive losing and all that comes with it. Not to mention, being one of a handful of survivors in their class. Might want to try something different for their last hurrah. Sucks, yes, but can't say that I blame them.

If this were the case then I would 100% feel the exact same way. Someone tell me if I am wrong here but the only freshman we are going to bring in and play with significance is going to be Beason. I know a lot of people are hoping Isaiah is going to be the next Juice at QB, but I do not see him playing QB in his true freshman season. I don't think Shammond Cooper will not get significant time at LB either, until he adds some size and strength.

Idk man. Eric Striker was pretty impressive. He was around Shammonds size when he played at Oklahoma.

We've been playing quit a few true freshman each year since Lovie has been here. Not sure why you'd think it would stop now, especially with the caliber of some of the guys we have coming and limited depth at certain positions.

Probably not going to happen but sure would love to see I Will in the slot for his frosh season. I think Rivers will develop into a good quarterback and I just want to get the ball in I Will's hands in open space. Of course, being a dual threat QB could do that too. I just don't want him to ride the pine even for a year.

I don't want anyone to have the impression I don't think this kid can be great. I am just not one to put such high hopes on a true freshman, especially one that plays such a physical position.
But even back to the original point, if Shammond does play significantly, that is still 2 or 3 guys playing as true freshman compared to 10-15

"Because for the first time in forever" sorry the frozen song popped in my head as I was typing this. Those that have young daughters will understand I hope.
For the first time in Lovie's tenure, the players he is bringing in are not better than the players on the current roster. Yes he is bringing in good talent. But they are not better than the players that have developed that are currently on the roster.

I like this with some caveats. We add a lot of speed in this class. It is hard to say that no one, other than Beason, will get significant time. Especially because injuries will play some role in who gets playing time. I would be surprised if we don't see some of our receivers and Cumby (at the slot) compete for playing time early in their tenure. But I agree that we have solid players that are developing and we shouldn't have to rely almost exclusively on Freshmen.

Bottom line:

I think there is a bald guy, who is paying for ALL this chaos, who knows details that we do not and is comfortable with the game plan.

Based on that, I would think, Lovie continues with his game plan of playing talented FR

#2,922
Some of the frosh will play. Skill guys mostly. Do you want Cumby and his speed watching? But, it will be different. None of the DL/OL need to play. They can also play them in four games as needed and keep that redshirt. Something they did last year. So maybe Cumby plays in certain games and not the rest.

It's sounding like they will wait to see if Moore can get in, the other 3 aren't going to happen.
We'll see a couple more spots open up so we'll add more than 16, filled by some transfers who will help immediately (WR & TE) Aside from Cooper & Randolph, maybe 2 more prep players, definitely an OL possibly Moore.

tell you guys right now. IW, Beason and Cooper (if he comes) are on the field first game. they've been told they will play and they will. Even if they're not the best choice promises have been made or they probably would have gone elsewhere.
