Unfortunately Marquez Beason is going to be a Heisman Jabrill Peppers-esque. So those 2 will be stealing votes from each other.

This escalated quickly. From 2 win seasons to arguing about who is the more deserving Heisman candidate.:thumb:

We are still a far way away from two Heisman candidates. But Lovie and company's recruiting does give us hope that we haven't had in a long time. I hope expectations are set for 2019 season. Although I think we could qualify for a bowl, we are expected to win 4 games

Yeah, up until the last couple of sentences. I hope the author gets to revisit this topic at a later date, and of course, will have to eat crow to go with the hubris already on his plate. Personally, I think these guys are in too deep with #ILLgang19 and mutual support for any mindchanging.

The first thing that jumps out at me when reading anything outside of Illini nation, is they think the only reason we got "Juice Duce" is because we hire CPat. And everyone wants to compare this to what happened to Kansas...1. It really shows how much information big media DOES NOT know 2. Who the F is Kansas's coach anyway? He is not Lovie Freeking Smith! No Comparison

It’s funny how my comment did escalate. I was talking more in playing style comparison. People are saying randel el, I see Johnny football.

I wasn’t insinuating he would win the heisman, but I would imagine as a five star recruit he could have a chance if he develops properly.

Could Isaiah Williams not be Heisman Johnny Manziel-esque?

Someone correct me here if I state something inaccurate. I think we can expect something in between Randle El and Manziel. Based off where ILL is compared to their respective programs.
Randle played in 1998. Yes, great athletes. But back then, the best athletes were all playing offense, for the most part. You didn't have someone like Beason, who is talented enough to be an impact WR say, "nah I am playing CB". Now Isaiah may be more athletic than Randle but I am assuming Randle was more of a solo act without much NFL talent playing with him. (my age is a factor here and I didn't look this up)
Maziel was another great athlete but also had legit NFL talent playing with him, including Mike Evans. Do we have such talent currently? No. I believe on the line we do/will. But at the skill positions, no. Will we by the time IWill takes the field? Possibly, which is super exciting

Man I’m watching these trinity catholic hudl Highlights and I’m like who is this #4 kid.

James Frenchie. We need James Frenchie. That dude is stupid fast

I agree. I like him more than Cooper in the 2020 class, who 247 currently rates higher.

That speed is just unreal. Williams to Frenchie looks unstoppable, at least against that competition.

I can understand why Marcus Washington's size makes him a more sought after recruit, but Trinity just has so many weapons. I wonder if the beef between CP and Washington's dad had to do with Washington not getting enough targets last year?

Maybe I am a little confused here, Mookie Cooper is a RB and ranked no. 1 in the state of MO. for the 2020 class, Frenchie is a nonranked(currently) 5'9" WR in the 2020 class. Watching Mookie's highlights, the first thing I thought was this dude is the fastest on a field on some fast athletes....I think Cooper is the bigger get here IMO

I think that is it for sure. I am sure as his dad, he thinks his son deserves to be a 5 star like IWill. But damn dad, there is only one ball and a crap ton of talent on that squad.

@wardth09 I think we got a big package in Chicago, but we don’t have a delivery date! Let me know what up Chi-Town! #ILLGANG19

FYI Corey just tweeted this out. Let the speculation commence. There was a Chicago showcase yesterday. Wonder if that has anything to do with it

Yes, but there isn't that much separating them, at least according to the 247 rankings. Cooper is ranked #1 in the state of Missouri (88th in the country) while Frenchie is ranked #3 in Missouri (115th in the country).

https://247sports.com/Season/2020-F...Rankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&State=MO

Still early to be ranking Sophomores and a lot could change. Jacardia Wright of Decatur was a Maxpreps All American after his Freshman season and now he's pretty much an after thought. I just like what I'm seeing from Frenchie a little bit more. Both are must gets IMO.

Frenchie could remain the same size and be a great slot receiver in college. Cooper probably does need to add some size to be an APB at the college level.

Henning of Lincoln-Way East is ranked very high in the Class of 2020. Have no idea where we stand with him. I'm honestly surprised that Denver Warren is ranked higher as I've been hearing about him for the past couple of years.

The way I see Mookie cut and explode...I am still high on him

It is hard to believe that with all that talent Trinity did not win state. They lost 48-46 to Lutheran North. I believe Lutheran north had 8 D-1 football signees this year.

The amount of football talent between those 2 schools is stupid. Lovie was a year late to the dance at Lutheran North and Oklahoma did well. Lovie spends a lot of time at both schools.

The two schools are only 3-4 miles apart which explains that full size all orange "Lovie" billboard that was along I-270 in north St Louis.

Has to be the Phillips Academy guys. The big question is does the package include Billingsley?

You are correct that Randle El didn't have a great supporting cast and Williams could definitely be somewhere between him and Manziel. Williams is accurate with a good arm which is Manziel like but a quicker athlete more like Randle El. Williams is faster than both of them who were each in 4.55 range.

I disagree however that we don't have NFLers to currently surround Williams with. I think without a doubt at least Dorsey and Smalling look like NFL talent to me.

My point was more that as of right now, Ricky and Dorsey MAY be NFL caliber, but as an entire offensive unit, that team was head and shoulders above what IL will be fielding in 2019. Now by 2020/2021 ish, when these guys develop and get their big boy muscles, we can be at that level for sure:thumb:

kinda answered your own question/statement.

Good to see realtionshiops being built there, and STL in general. Hopefully do the same throughout all of Illinois. Need a solid foundation of Illinois players, supplemented with talent from Texas, Fl, wherever, to go with the foundation.

Most of their major contributors appear to be in the Class of 2019 and 2020 as well. The lack of impact Seniors was probably the only reason they came up short against Lutheran North. Two teams on their schedule refused to play them last year which is why the players were able to visit for the Rutgers game.

I saw something back in December that indicated that East St. Louis will play Trinity Catholic in the Gateway Classic this year:

https://edgytim.forums.rivals.com/threads/east-st-louis-football-classic-schedule.14357/

Can anyone confirm that this is still the schedule? I would go if Illinois wasn't playing Kent State that weekend. Phillips is also scheduled to be there so there could be a lot of future Illini participating in this event.

Same goes for the state title game. If it is Lutheran North vs Trinity again, would be awesome if the stands had a lot of ILL gear!

To add to the speculation, if Charles Billingsley is Jahleel's father, he commented on the tweet: "aw yeah" and tagged Jahleel and Coach Ward. But i'm not sure if coincidentally same last name or if related to Jahleel

Trieu and Werner just changed their CB picks for Joseph Thompson to Iowa State. Trieu had already written an article about changing his CB pick to ILL. Strange.

That is strange....especially considering we were just speculating that Corey's tweet was about getting Billingsley.
Well....with all the buzz and hype, we still are going to lose some targets and possible pull back on some offers
