What NCAA rule would prevent a verbal commitment?
He was planning on taking his official visits in June/July and then announcing his commitment on his birthday in August.
The new period for recruits to take official visits runs from April 1st until late June. As he's not allowed to take official visits in July, he's going to take all of his official visits in the fall. This is what is pushing his verbal commitment date back.
Yes, and we should remember that we didn't make his top 10.
That doesn't mean Illinois can't be in his Top 6... :thumb:

I agree, but I want to temper expectations. His father has no interest in Illinois and makes that abundantly clear. I would love him to come aboard, but I wouldn't bet on it (actually, I would bet against it). I respect the father is looking out for his son and wants to support him to do the best thing.
I think we should be respectful of Marcus and his family. And be ready for him to not accept our offer. My concern is that when people get their hopes up, they get upset when kids don't choose us. And say inappropriate things and make inappropriate comments. We should already expect he is not coming along. We can keep showing love and we can keep pushing til the end. But just keep it clean and know that he is most likely going somewhere else.
Nubin to Minnesota. 5th ranked player in Illinois.

You never know what a recruit is going to prioritize when picking a school (the NFL, winning a championship, immediate PT, etc..) but a homestate DB picking Minny is just weird! He never seemed interested in the O&B, but he definitely has offers from better programs.
Abraham, Byrd, Lovie, Hardy...I can't imagine there is a better group for a DB to learn from on how to get to the NFL
That one sucks. I mean, we are sitting really well right now with our momentum but it always sucks to lose good in state players.
It’s almost like it’s harder to sell to in state guys because they are closer to us and are more familiar with our losing ways.
PJ Fleck is a good recruiter. He is like a human version of Illinois on twitter.
It only sucks if we lose jirehl Brock also

Fleck rubs me the wrong way. He is like finger nails on a chalkboard for me.
A very good friend of mine played with Fleck at NIU. I haven't heard a good thing said about him whenever Flecks name is brought up.
That guy is the biggest phony on the planet. He's Articulate Tim Beckman.
That gives me flashbacks to the disastrous 670 the score interview with Beckman explaining his acronym W.I.N. "Whatever Is Necessary Today."
"Isn't that W.I.N.T"
What a day for Oklahoma. Secured commitments from the 3rd, 6th, and 210th ranked players at their spring game.
