I would like to know what the NCAA transfer portal is, if you happened to learn that today.

New NCAA process for transferring that went into effect in October. If an athlete tells their coaches/admin in writing they intend to transfer, then their info must be put into the portal to inform other coaches they can be contacted and to facilitate paperwork. It replaces the "permission to contact" system, so schools can't deny/delay giving athletes permission be contacted by other schools anymore. If an athlete asks to be put into the portal and doesn't transfer, their current school no longer is obligated to keep them on the team/scholarship. He could stay if he changes his mind and Georgia still wants him.

I see on 247 that Sean Scherer (MSU guru) flipped his CB on Keith Randolph from MSU to the beloved!

Also, Hookfin looked like a Texas lock on 247 until this afternoon. Now looking heavily Baylor.

The choice to start From over fields was a choice similar to what Clemson had to make. Clemson chose the Larence, they lost kelly. Georgia started Fromm, they lost Fields.

I hope this isn’t a precursor to Illinois’ choice next year. Start Williams lose all underclass qbs. Start Anyone else, lose Williams.

The offense would be even more dynamic than it currently is - but what about the Defense? That's where we need the most help - Eifler for Phillips and everyone gets older - but the D was really REALLY bad last year
Honestly, I don't think anyone even noticed. /s

In fairness to the 4 guys you mentioned at Clemson and Georgia. Our QB decision doesn’t even compare. All four of those guys were studs coming out of high school and most likely will be NFL draft picks at some point. Outside of Rivers I would argue the other two QBs currently on our roster would have few P5 teams even willing to take them as transfers. Not a knock on them, just the facts.

Once again, we are the only high major program that recruited Williams as a QB. Will he have a shot at winning the QB job next year, probably. Was the conversation had during his recruitment that he may be the backup, but see the field as a WR? I sure as hell hope so!

Ford is coming here. Will Fields follow Ford here? absolutely not.

Our base defensive set is a 4-2-5, so we really don't have outside line backers, more like 2 middles. He'll probably be the weak side MLB
But did we not run the 4-2-5 mostly because of our lack of decent LB depth? Not that is will be solid with the addition of Shammond, but still much better than last year.

Basically we feel great about:
- Luke Ford
- Cooper
- Randolph
- Thomas (if he gets his waiver)
- AD Miller

And still a strong suitor for the one and only:
- Tate (Has to do a lot still in order to be eligible as a grad transfer)

Current commits:
- Cumby is good to go
- Coleman is totally up in the air

I agree, i was mostly pointing out that our qb situation could get prickly next year. We had 3 freshmen last year. At some point, one will leave. A 2nd will likely leave when iw moves up a spot on the depth chart

I’m not sure I’m this optimistic. But I’ll cross my fingers
