We have a small class. Smallest in the B1G and by far smaller than most schools, period. Also, I expect like last year we'll be saving a fair number of slots for transfers, where we did VERY well last year (Peters, Betiku, Imatorbhebe, Sidney, Ford, Petitbon, etc). Class isn't done yet and average ranking is still solid. In that respect we'll be closer to 10th in the B1G than 14th and I'm sure will be higher once we lump in the transfers.

You can’t save spots for transfers. That market goes two ways.

You sure he’s in the top 500? That’s not where I have him.

Baileys ride is almost at its conclusion...
He was is what I meant. He’s fallen in the rankings a little bit. Just saying I really like this pickup and think he’s a tad under ranked. And yeah baileys whole situation is fluid. I’m hearing about a possible flip from a guy who didn’t sign as well....

Perhaps. I'm not overly concerned with who we have, nor am I really disappointed, but I just expected more. But again, i get rankings don't mean everything.

Im hearing rumblings of Bailey now? Man this situation couldn’t be anymore confusing lol. On film I don’t see much difference from Newton and billingsley, who is a top 500 recruit.

Billingsley is not a top-500 recruit. He got a lot of his offers as an underclassmen but a lot of those offers were gone by the time he finished his Junior year. He looked rather pedestrian during the camp circuit this Spring which is why his ranking has dropped a bit.

Missouri really only pushed for him after he said he was planning on visiting Illinois back in June. Not many other schools were pushing for him at that time.

I think he’s ranked fairly. Riggins is the player that is under ranked in my mind.

If you’re talking about a flip to us, so have I. If you’re alluding to jadon Thompson and a flip from us, I haven’t heard that.

Class is decent so far. Seems like DB is position of need at this point. Where do we stand with Art Green and Daemon Hill?

Wouldn’t count on either of those. Transfer market will materialize after bowl games and the dust settles from today. Next 6 weeks are crucial for evaluation.

What happened to going 6-6 and getting an in flux of top flight kids? Overall, I think they did well grabbing skill players, and I'm actually not overly concerned about the O or D line, but the rest of the defense leaves me worried. What kind of safety depth do we have? CB seems ok for now and LB as well to an extent, but I still feel like we are lacking talent there, or at the very least it's unproven.

I get I shouldn't be worried about stars and rankings, but 70ish and 14th in the B1G can't be a good thing.

You can relax now. With Newton's signing Illini are 60th and 13th in the B1G. //s

I don't know much about football recruiting, but I always assumed this would be a process. One .500 season wasn't going to lead to 4 and 5*s beating down the door this year -- especially given where Illinois football was at. But I would assume it will help with the next class -- even more so if next year is another bowling year. And then the year after as well. Need to give the staff time to build relationships with these kids, and based on this year's on-field performance they'll have more and better recruits willing to truly consider the Illini for their college career.

Recruiting always follows a year later. I would expect to see a really nice 2021 class. Look at Purdue they have a great class despite awful results. Same thing as northwestern. I mean Minnesota had a huge year and has a okay not special class. Recruiting bumps happen years after big years.
