Okay so Powell caused himself to end up at the OVC but yet sunket still tweeted out negativity about the program because why?
He simply asked why not Powell. That is a question. It’s only negative if the staff was on BS.

Okay so then what if they responded cause he wasn’t talented enough. Then is everything okay? Does thank make him happier?
If that’s how they felt! Just remember you took a Mac level or below Trinity player! Every High school in Illinois and Missouri knows this. Hard to stand on something when you make moves like that.

Well considering we’ve gotten 5 kids from trinity in the last 4 years maybe there is some good faith there.

I have no ill will towards Illinois coaches but I’m also realistic. We haven’t been getting top kids in state for a decade. I know many coaches that root for our success and they can’t force kids to stay home. But also I’ve seen coaches who want us to take their scraps while they send their best players out of the state. We need to improve as a program in order to draw kids back. But trust me when I saw we aren’t gonna build a good enough roster with the scraps (25-35 ranked kids) in Illinois. It’s a smart decision to look out of state. These problems aren’t new and they won’t go away quickly. Hiring some guy from Naperville central isn’t gonna all of the sudden make kids wanna stay home.
I don't think you are realistic. I don't think it's realistic to call out coaches for not attending those zoom meetings. To me, those invites were insulting to coaches, like they have nothing better to do with their time than see what Miles Smith has to say about...??? My concern is that you're expressing a petty, unreasonable outlook of the staff. How else did you know only one school showed up for Miles' zoom meeting?

I'm with you, Title. There were a number of these zoom calls promoted this month, each featuring a different coach, each without any hint of an agenda. The one @moggs3 posted, which was the last one, was with Miles Smith. How have the other zoom calls been received? I'm surprised they got one attendee. If the staff thinks these are effective invites and @Positive illini fan's indignation is a reflection of the staff's feeling towards the high school coaches, maybe they need to be let go ASAP.

It is literally like an advertisement. Yes. You get an opportunity to talk to your in state coaching staff. I have a pretty good feeling they would send an agenda when coaches contact them. THEY LITERALLY GAVE IN STATE COACHES AN OPPORTUNITY TO REACH OUT TO THEM TO BUILD A RELATIONSHIP. They do not need to post their whole agenda on Twitter. You guys must be on the Lovie needs to go train or something. Or the Illinois isn't gonna be very good this year train.

I think it’s realistic for coaches to want to build a relationship with the flagship school. If they don’t want to attend then that’s fine but don’t cry to others that Illinois isn’t putting forth a effort. And it wasn’t miles meeting, it was bellamys. One school showed up, I work for a recruiting service and @moggs3 confirmed the same thing. One school showed up to bellamys zoom meeting. And you are misinformed. They were set invites to the meeting through their AD and directly to the coaches. The ones on twitter were not the invites sent.

Well this thread is off the rails. I'll check in a few days. Too many posters accused of being misinformed.

My apologies to you. I think it is time that we all just agree to disagree. No one is changing their stance. I just want to see Illinois win football games and win our state back. I live how we are doing in FL and other states but it is always better when we are getting in state kids too. Sorry for the bickering. Go Illini!

Just not much else to talk about in here lol. I agree it’s pointless to argue with people who aren’t gonna change their opinion. But there just isn’t much to talk about with no visits or anything. I just want to see us win games regardless of who it’s with. Go illini.

Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, Lincoln Riley, etc personal call and invite Coaches they want to attend whatever they want. You are speaking as if Illinois kids are going to major universirties and need to be excited that Illinois staff is willing to talk to them. SMH

It’s Powell’s fault like I said from the Beginning and yes he can tweet negative just like he tweet positive!! Especially If he felt a certain way about it. Hell with the BS I posted plus the refusal to hire Terry Hawthorne he should technically ban Illinois. Yet he still post in support of Lovie but, you keep posting BS pushing a false narrative!!

Wait, I thought Hawthorne didn't want to move to Champaign. Are you saying our staff turned him down?

And this pretty much shows the problem. Personal calls, texts or emails would be ideal. Fun thread though

What kind of a relationship can you expect to build in a zoom meeting with maybe 20 or 30 or 50 other coaches?

Why must I be on the Lovie must go train? Because I'm asking insiders if the staff is butt hurt about the lack of attendance at the zoom meetings? If they are that sensitive, it seems that they are in the wrong business.

I'm not an insider. I get all my information here. Any misinformation came from you and @moggs3.

If only one school showed up there has to be a disconnect somewhere. Out of 500 plus high schools in Illinois, only one show up? Who are we kidding. May just be results of hiring a Texas person to improve relations with Illinois Coaches. Not saying anything negative, just pointing out facts. If I took a job in Texas I wouldn't know where to start. Part of the process.
This is weak. I know she is from texas but I am sure she is capable of sending out a zoom meeting invite to coaches. The interview I posted on here, she said Lovie told her step 1 was to connect with Illinois. They put the call out, the ILL coaches didn't show up. Put it to bed

Two most interesting things coming out of this discussion

(1) Jimbo spent more time at ESTL than Lovie. I know he is hands off but the man has to recognize he still has some celebrity factor and he needs to be present in key recruitments. A drivable school with years of P5 talent should be worth his time

(2) Zoom call with “all” ILL HS invited and 1 attends?!?! Would have been better if zero then you could at least feel invites got lost or something. This sounds like one of those ideas that are good in theory for someone young and new but falls apart in practice. HS coaches are people too with commitments, jobs, families and you need something to entice them to spend an hour or two of their time. Probably would have needed some sort of innovative virtual coaches Clinic with some marquee speakers or topics.

I thought we were done with this??? I am friends with the I-West coach. He said he was the only coach that attended the zoom meeting for Bellamy and they talked for about 40 minutes and build a relationship. And idk...having all your in state coaches in a zoom meeting seems like a pretty good time to sell your program to me. They are sure doing something right in FL. They would not do the right things in FL and the wrong things in IL unless there was a good reason. What misinformation have I personally brought? I'm no insider. I hear things every now and then and share when I do.

Those are very interesting. And I am not saying that Title is wrong about some things he is saying. But this is a two way street in state. Lovie and the Illini staff need to put more of an effort in, but the high school coaches haven't made it easy on him. Especially Sunkett and Chicago coaches.
