I know, that overall , you can never have too many highly rated athletes as you can plug and play them in quite a few different spots on O , D & ST.
But it does seem like we are a little thick at WR and TE, considering also that BB in general , has a history of being more run / ball control on offense.

Its probably closer to 15 not 20, but there’s a handful or so of guys and a ton of question marks and/or youth/inexperienced. Hightower, Washington, Navarro, Williams, Armstrong, and then Thompson and Beason(last 4 guys all changing to the wr position). Sandy’s not played a bunch. I like Bryant’s upside but he’s a true fresh. So getting a guy with millers upside is huge imo.
Kutas to arkansas, hopefully brown and allen are 2 guys we can get for the d line.

HUGE get! Beat out some legit programs that wanted him. 4 WR is a lot for one class, but Bryant is the only WR left from the past 2 classes, and although Beason and IW are "freshman" I'd be surprised if they were around 4 additional years.

The thing I have to keep reminding myself is that these kids are likely 2-3 years away from being impact players. I’m also hopeful for this year, but it still is going to take some time before we are where we want to be. Absolutely LOVE this staff tho.

Isn’t one issue that they hired an East St. Louis coach as a staffer (Terry Hawthorne I think) so can’t sign anyone from there this class? Obviously that wouldn’t preclude recruiting players from other schools in the area, but could be why so quiet there this class. Not sure how accurate, but 247 has Illini with 25 offers thus far for 2023 class and 3 are from St. Louis area (and another from MO) while 4 are from IL.
I think this staff is doing an excellent job executing their plan. With the pandemic, it was hard for a new staff to make an impression considering coaches haven’t had a chance to visit schools. I think you will see a little more activity next Spring for the 2023 class.

Jared Mangham seemed like a long shot at best a month ago. I still highly doubt he comes here but wouldn’t be shocked. I would love to hear from someone that might know more. His decision coming August 1, according to 247.
