I agree that getting some results on the field this year is very important. I’m not sure if that will have recruiting really taking off, but it will give some momentum. That will be crucial cuz next year’s team could have some real problems.

Looked back at Bielema's recruiting history at Wisconsin. Shoot Zook seemed to have out-recruited him almost every year.

I really think we can expect Bielema to do good things with the current experienced roster he has and the solid 3*s he is bringing in. With some respectable success on the field this year, and finally getting recruits into the new building, I think we might see the floor of this program raised to a place we are all happy with.

Bingo. Iowa State taking their program to unprecedented heights + Minnesota hiring Fleck (who's an excellent recruiter and going into Iowa's coveted west suburbs and beating them for recruits) + Wisconsin's recruiting success really taking off across the Midwest + Bielema bringing a greater focus to Illinois for UI. It's really squeezing Iowa around the margins that they had been very successful for the past decade.

It helps when the one team in your division that is boat-racing you in recruiting has a coach that struggles mightily come game time. This has been Nebraska's problem since they let Pelini go. They bring in a ton of talent but consistently get less from their recruiting than the rest of the Big Ten West.

If he wasn’t already in the portal, and I didn’t see him, he would have to sit at this point correct? As a PWO, that might be his best route anyway.
Looks like similar path Donny Navarro took. Since it's FCS he can play this year. Good experienced depth piece.
Hale seems like the type of guy after putting on 10-15 pounds will be a good nose tackle. Coming from a good program will help.

"Okay, so I decided to compare these numbers further, putting into perspective the top Big Ten and bottom Big Ten classes each year to give some context. Illinois was obviously near the bottom of the Big Ten every year from 2010-2017 (although never technically the worst class). And it's interesting to visualize that even Bret Bielema's best classes at Wisconsin and Arkansas aren't near the top. For example, his 2016 class at Arkansas was #23 in the country and #9 in the SEC (would have been #6 in the Big Ten).
Conclusion: Bielema's teams have never blown anyone away in recruiting prowess, but almost anything would be an improvement for Illinois. Very interested to see how Bielema shapes this roster short-term/long-term and who he hires to spearhead recruiting."

Flatout Bobby Roundtree saved my son's life this year after a blood clot in his shoulder he was being recruited by quite a few Division 1 schools and after of blood clot in the shoulder and his arm and he had to have surgery they quit talking to him Bobby Roundtree saved his life he was his buddy on Instagram
My son is now healthy the blood clot is gone they fixed it he is now getting big again he is lifting every night he is going to a community college and he will transfer to the University of Illinois next year or at spring semester he's six foot one 195 lb free safety who runs a four 5:40 and he hits like a Mack truck and he also has a high IQ football level so we'll see what happens but Bobby Roundtree saved his life guys thank you so much

Looking at in-state recruiting rankings, anyone have insight on the lack of offer for Ahmad Robinson at East St. Louis? Could really use at least one secondary recruit in this class, he would provide some in-roads at an important HS/area, ranked highly, has a Mizzou offer, but only committed to Arkansas State.
1) I think Robinson is a very good prospect
2) I don't think the Mizzou offer was committable, but they do a good job catering to ESL. Hopefully we can get back in, but Lovie ignored the school after Jeff Thomas
3) I am pretty sure with the Hawthorne hire, we can't recruit any '22 ESLers
4) I'd still like to see offers for McVay, Patterson, etc. even if they are unlikely to come

Does anyone know the story on Washington? Wake coach indicated an academic issue that wasn't his fault but it seems odd that that impacts his Wake eligibility but not his Illinois eligibility.
I believe it was more along the lines of credits at Illinois for his major wasnt transfering to wake or something like that. (Dont quote me on that but I believe thats what I’ve read.) Needless to say hes very much needed and im glad hes back.
