That’s a nice pickup! I’m wondering about the timing. Does he expect to be eligible this year or will he sit out?

I'm worried about the timing as well but for different reasons. I wonder if this is an sign of disappointment along the defensive line. The timing of his transfer (a month ago) makes me think the coaching staff might have just pounced on a guy they think is really talented, plus there is a lot of depth on the edges right now.

Just thinking about the player, these are the additions you love to make. He's a freshman and was highly regarded out of HS (20 Power-Five offers). I always lean towards making the talent play. That scouting report link talks about the excitement for VT that he'll be a bigger edge than they've been accustomed to on their roster. Good sign that he would fit well with the (presumed) 3-4 look that is going to be used by Walters.

24-7 Sports is saying "Immediate". Not sure if that's totally accurate or not.

why would he not be eligible ?
players get at least one “free” transfer that will probably become unlimited freedom to move every year .

My question was more about being late to camp and not ready to play.

I think its no secret that the D-line is thin as far as depth and talent. Any upgrades are definitely welcome.

After this year it gets even thinner. Would imagine they would take 1-2 transfers as well after this year.

Isn’t our class consisted of mostly thoroughly average recruits though? A good player is going to be higher than everybody in our class. At that point the question becomes, is he THAT much better than everybody in the class that you make room for him at an already crowded position?

I’m not here to argue one way or the other cause I don’t know what goes into football talent evaluation. Just saying we have recruited some good pieces, but we’re not hitting grand slams based on rankings.
You’re pretty close.

Average across all of Div 1. Below average among the Power 5.

anyone else besides me think that the “one free transfer “ for each player , meaning no sit out year , is going to become unlimited ?

it’s one way to try to limit the power of the top 10 blue blood schools . I’ll take some scraps from the Bama roster

Agreed. It may take a bit of time, but generally saying that its ok once means saying its ok twice is right around the corner.
