It all starts up front. Big kid. Love the pick up.

Long time follower first time poster. Was doing some perusing on Twitter and came across an unknown kid from the state of Illinois that received his first offer.

Unless this turns into a Jimmy Rolder situation I would assume we have a future Illini on our hands. :)
Saw Werner’s retweet that said he is 2022 athlete from Stagg that Illini are recruiting as a DB.

Got 2 CBs today for a 3-star CB out of FL
They talk about track in his bio so I looked up his numbers. 25.19 200 and 18’1.25” long jump are not crazy fast or explosive numbers. The 200 was into the wind to be fair but it’s marked as his personal best so still not blazing. Just found it interesting.

Those are very, very mediocre #'s. I was a distance runner and had better sprint #'s than that. On the flip side, nice offer list!

What is the Jimmy Rolder situation?
Had no offers whatsoever in October; Illini offered him and soon the floodgates opened and all the top schools across the country started offering him. Essentially went from a no star to a highly sought after 4 star overnight

He’s now committed per tweet by Werner. Doesn’t say whether scholarship or preferred walk-on. 24/7 has him listed as 6-2, 190 pound unranked safety.

According to 247 Sports, Mc-Cantos has a decent offer list: LSU, Penn State, Michigan, Kentucky, Syracuse.... But I am in agreement.....those are not good numbers for a 200 or Long Jump or they are just flat-out wrong...certainly nothing worth posting or publicizing when Power 5 conferences are looking at you as a Cornerback. Says he was a 'Regional Qualifier' in Long Jump as a Junior. I don't know how Florida High School track and field is structured, but to be classified as "qualifying" for something on the regional level in the Miami area, I would sure think he's got to be a lot better than 18-1.

I'm more optimistic for a guy like Griffin than Terrell Jones. Griffin is the classic late bloomer during an unprecedented time of players being unknown due to the pandemic. Jones has been a known commodity for some time at one of the more well-known prep football areas in the country. Both of these commits seem like scouting plays by the staff. It would be a nice win for the staff if one of them turns out to be a starter in the long-term.

Spoon/Taz Nicholson vibes from Griffin

You can sell me on the staff didn't want a repeat of the Rolder recruitment on pressed Griffin hard immediately to close down his recruitment before the scholarship vultures start circling. We'll see if he gets offers from other schools regardless.
