Believe the rules are such that one can play fb and run track, but the scholly must come from/count against fb, and can't be the other way around.

I saw that the big OL from Denmark is coming back for an official visit. Was here a couple/few weeks ago for an unofficial. Don’t know if he’s any good, but 6-8, 300 pounds would seem like a good jumping off point for development.

Is there any specific reason why nobody’s announced transfering in yet?
Some might not want to burn bridges with current school and teammates while the season is still in play.

Maybe more likely, waiting for grades to be finalized and accepted into program at UofI first. Don't want to have a Beckman or Lovie issue when we say kids are coming and they get rejected.

Mike Leach explains what he looks for when evaluating quarterbacks

“Are they accurate? Do they make good decisions? The biggest, which is hard to pinpoint because it’s kind of a collection, is how good they do as far as elevating the players around them,” Leach told reporters. “But you start with ‘are they accurate’ and ‘do they make good decisions?’ If they can’t do that, then you can’t get past square one. You’ve got to be able to do that."

Either we're not asking the right questions or we're looking for the wrong answers.

Instead of those barometers how about can he pass without triple clutching.
Can he throw quickly to an open player with some kind of zip on the ball instead of having so much elapsed time in his throw that the defense is right on top of the receiver.

But I think triple clutching is the result of not making a good decision. Throwing quickly with some kind of zip on it could also be classified as making a good decision, assuming you're not basing that solely on arm strength and delivery mechanics.

I just feel like accuracy and good decision making were the heart of the problem with the quarterbacks this year. And I hope any quarterback they recruit is, at the very least, competent in these two areas.

You mean one of them five star quarterbacks?

Well, no, they can be found elsewhere. For example, Charlotte's quarterback was a former walk-on, but far more accurate than what Illinois had and would have been an upgrade even though he doesn't have the physical attributes you would find in a five star quarterback, or even Illinois' former four star quarterbacks.

I’m all for it if he can move the way he needs to. I’m assuming football here has a little more speed to it than overseas. I’d actually feel really good if he played basketball at some point with that height, then just kinda gained a bunch of football weight.

247 updated their 2023 rankings late last week. Here are some of the state of Illinois changes (and top prospects):

Charles Jagusah - OT - Rock Island area
- Top ranked Illinois prep. Went from borderline top-300 recruit to now #115. He's a top-10 tackle nationally. Offers from everywhere. Would be Illinois' highest-ranked recruit since Zook era.

Miles McVay - OT - East St. Louis area
- #125 recruit. Has been fairly steady around that ranking since the spring. #11 tackle, nationally. Pretty much everything I wrote about Jagusah applies here. Again, top-ranked offensive line recruits have to be Bielema's best chance of breaking into this quality of individual recruits, especially in-state.

Paris Patterson - OG - East St. Louis area
- #242 recruit. A little bit of a step down from the top two guys but still above Illinois' traditional weight class. Has seen his ranking rise a little during the football season. No reported new offers since May 2021 (maybe he's not reporting any new offers?)

Malik Elzy - WR - Simeon
- #281 recruit. Hasn't been re-ranked since August so nothing new to report.

Kaden Feagin - ATH (S?) - Arthur
- #310 recruit. Initial composite ranking. His ranking has been steadily rising on 247's internal ranking. Has been on Iowa's campus a lot since the summer. Big priority from early on for Bielema.

Jyaire Hill - ATH(S?) - Kankakee area
- #364 recruit. Initial composite ranking. Has picked up a lot of Big Ten offers in the past six weeks. Another big target for the Illinois staff.

From my hometown. Would absolutely SUCK if the one (and only??) Div 1 athlete to ever make it out of our tiny town and tiny football program goes to Iowa.

It’s all UofI fans in Arthur and he should have grown up on a steady diet of Iowa hate. (From his peers and people around town anyway)

Please don’t go to Iowa.

Not confident in the top 3, but hopefully there's a shot at the bottom 3

Whoever had Bielema's first 5* official visit coming from a WR, come collect your massive long-shot winnings.
Not sure we really have much of a shot. Believe he’s coming with his teammate 2022 commit WR Shawn Miller. But hey, he is originally from St. Louis so who knows. Can’t be a bad sign.
