I prefer DeVito over Sitkowski. Hoping we still develop Collier as into a 2 year QB for us before Leary takes over.

Kerby Joseph just declared for draft.

Hoping we start adding some transfer portal CBs and LBs (Gabe Jeudy-Lally and Antonio Doyle would be nice)

Hoping we can add another WR via transfer portal (Ajou Ajou??).
Gesundheit. Here, have a tissue.

Probably unlikely Collier ever takes a snap for us as he isn't stylistically what this offense is predicated around.

It will be another recruit in the 2023 class and probably another grad transfer.

Whether now or then we should also keep our ear to the ground for another multi-year player either from HS or a transfer.

This isn't just an Illinois thing, for most schools in the country the answer is constant churn of possibilities at QB until you hit on a multi-year starter, and then constant churn behind them. Two new QB's every year is the minimum, really.

The truth reveals itself quickly. If Leary is a guy, we'll know. If Collier is a guy, we'll know. If Sitkowski was a guy, we'd know.

What? Don't be fooled by the dual threat label they put on any QB who is not a statue. Check out his Sr. season Hudl video. He may not ever take a snap, but it won't be because he's not stylistically what this offense is predicated around. His highlight video seems similar to TDV's, only less running.

I mean maybe. On the one hand he was completely out of the pecking order during a season when we were desperate for anyone with a spark, even behind fellow dual threat Matt Robinson.

On the other hand they didn’t make a WR out of him like IW and Spann. Or maybe he just refused.

All to be revealed in due course, but if he’s behind Leary going into next year that’s pretty much your ballgame. He probably won’t be here if things trend that way, that’s the nature of the QB position in today’s college football.

Towards the end of the season, when Sitkowski went down, BB had him ahead of Matt Robinson.

But can he read a defense and make consistent throws while under duress?

I have faith BB will turn this ship around. That being said I really hope his staff reaches out to almost every QB that has entered the portal. I do not recall seeing a somewhat consistent offense since the Kittner years. Even the Juice Williams years look incredible compared to the last 10 years.

Past 20 seasons (offense points scored per game average by season)

ZERO seasons inside the top 25

THREE seasons inside the top 50

14 out of 20 seasons 80th or worse in scoring average

8 out of 20 seasons 100th or worse in scoring average

In the last 10 seasons our best scoring average season was 61st

In the last 10 seasons our worst scoring average season was 122nd in 3 different seasons

Maybe Santa can bring us a consistent QB one of these days.....

Keep in mind our offense and program isn’t exactly a “destination” spot for grad transfer QBs. We will be a run first team and a transfer QB won’t come in slinging it around 40 times a game.

I would think a transfer QB's first priority would be to find a landing spot where he has a great chance to start. We are definitely that place.

The best transfer QBs find that at top programs. Oklahoma, OSU, LSU, ND and Texas A&M are programs that come to mind that have started transfer QBs in recent years.

Do you have the same stats handy for defense? My guess is we fare no better on that side of the ball, with this last year breaking the trend and hopefully setting a new expectation going forward.

If he commits we are going to be huge on the O line. Wisecraver, Magnus Opum, Whitenack, and a few others are huge human beings. I think this is what BB is hunting for. The old Wisc road graders. But they also did a good job at pass blocking. Let's hope the crystal ball is correct.

I know some people are less than thrilled about the DeVito commit, but remember that last year the best the Illini could do was Art. Granted there didn’t appear to be a clear path to starting last year and there is now. But at least when looking at their best years statistically, DeVito looks like he would have been in higher demand than Art. If Illini look to portal after next season, hopefully the pool of those interested in the Illini continues to strengthen.

We just got a crystal ball for JUCO OT Isaiah Adams from Garden City CC. He is 6'6" 320 lbs and would quickly help shore up our offensive line. He is also originally from Ontario so should feel at home with the Brown twins.
Pretty decent offer list, I hope we land him. Also, I’m in favor of recruiting any player named Isaiah.
