Considering proximity and the overlap in our coaching staffs, we should expect to be against Purdue for nearly every recruit for the foreseeable future. We are going to win some and they are going to win some.

He was at Illinois just a week a go visiting. It just feels weird that every one we want, they want, but someone else pretty much explained the situation. Close by school and they will go after alot of players we want, but it just feels weird.
Was he here last week? It said on his 247 profile he visited back on May 19th.
But we all know 247's data/dates aren't always accurate.

It was fairly recent, i can't really remember when it was exactly ? I thought it was a week a go, but maybe it was longer.

I think it should be said that coach Kane and coach Walters had established and developed relationships with these young men when they worked for the U of I. These relationships with coaches are huge to these recruits. If Purdue had not hired Walters and our staff remained intact Illinois would have gotten Williams and others.
There will be overlap in staffs for a couple cycles. My hope is we are able to retain our current staff for some years.

Walters is going to learn how much harder it is to be head coach as opposed to defensive coordinator.

Purdue OC Harrell runs Texas Tech air raid offense. 30 ppg 400 yds/game last year at W Virgina where they finished 5-7. Their defense gave up 33 ppg and 412 yds/game. He had a JT Daniels at QB who was a former starter at USC - 5th year player 2 years at USC and 2 years at GA. This offense will put a lot of pressure on Walters defense. Of course an offense that does not score also puts pressure on your defense (Illinois 9 Iowa 6)

fully get that Lightfoot is a longshot, but I love it when commits start recruiting:
It’s not as much of a long shot as people think … We are top 2 for him from what I’ve gathered and he and family are going to give Charlie and Bret a chance to sell … They LOVE Charlie … They see Gabe and what he did and they hear what Charlie plans to do with Keith and Newton and Gabe … And they know Marquise will start Day 1 here vs go to Ohio State and you’re riding that pine for at least a year …
Also doesn’t hurt when guys like JJ Watt, Hasson Reddick and Chandler Jones reach out and tell the kid to trust Charlie …
