It's very difficult to read that and not AGAIN come away convinced that the Illini have the right man in charge of the program. I suppose the media that cover Illinois football could be (at times) kissing up to, or being overly complimentary of Bielema, but there are so many consistent observations of the thought, planning and detail that flows from him through the program that it must be generally true. I hope he's in C-U a long time.

Surprised there isn't more chatter on here regarding this HUGE OV weekend? We have a ton of talent in Cham-Bana and Bret's crew is dialed in to deliver. Can't wait to see what comes from this.

the “chatter” will really start tomorrow or early next week once one or two desirable targets commit. We are all expecting a little uptick in the overall “quality” at some positions .

that said , many players are over rated and many are under rated in their just completed Jr year of high school

based on interest, specifically kids who seem to have keen interest, I'll be disappointed with a little uptick. I'm expecting clear uptick. But to your point, wholeheartedly agree that drawing conclusions from recruiting rankings is often not a very good indicator (Spoon, to a much lesser extent Newton, Luke Ford).

Consider this mid-game. We don't need to discuss the outcome until it's over. My guess is we won't see much leak until Monday or Tuesday. There have been some bad outcomes from recruits committing during their recruiting visit.

Recruiting wise, it looks like our staff has 6- 4 Star players on campus in the month of June alone. I believe those numbers are only including class of 2024 kids. I am not sure if any of our recent coaching staffs (short of maybe Zook) have been able to pull something like this off.
Also the fact that this staff can "coach up" 2 and 3 star kids as well, has to make all of us feel very confident going forward.

Why would a kid go to a CFB 2nd tier conference when he could play in CFB big leagues?

Will Illinois eventually benefit from the "Big 2" - "Lesser Others" evolution of CFB conferences? The elite programs (OSU, MI, AL, GA, etc.) will always get the vast majority the 5 star and high 4 star kids. Will lower 4 star and high 3 star kids that previously chose programs in the "Lesser Others" now focus on playing in the "Big 2" due to financial gain and/or greater exposure? Eventually begin to level the playing field in the "Big 2"? Your thoughts?

There may be some gain for a few years as this plays out, but eventually the "Big 2" will become the "Only 2". Then, there will still be bottom feeders. They'll just all be in one big mega-super-conference.
