I get that Luke is our guy, but the staff is kicking the tires here right?
Insiders will know for sure, but I'm assuming Bret will always do his due diligence with the QB market.
I'd be shocked if it was anything more than peripheral evaluation/communication. Sure they'll all be big NIL numbers and we have much bigger needs.
Anybody aware of any legacy G5/FCS QBs that are wanting to be the backup next year?

A decent chunk of these guys are noticeably worse than Altmyer. Gabriel is following his guy to Miss. State. Leonard is going to cost a boat load and has been widely reported as off to Notre Dame. Ward and McCall are going to get paid and likely going to programs with national title aspirations. Maybe Howard too. I would take Altmyer's long-term future over Moore, DJ, Van Dyke, and Rogers. Some of these guys have gotten multiple coaches fired.
I'm starting to think some of you are using Paddock's great string of play as a mark against Altmyer. Altmyer was the fourth-best QB in the Big Ten across a lot of metrics and he was a first-time starting sophomore. He is looking like the long-term QB piece that Illinois hasn't had in years. He is exactly who we want.

Which? That list seems like a list of successful college QBs and then really high upside arms that haven't played much. I'm not advocating going after them, but I'm not sure Luke would rank above many/any. He was a pretty average QB. Nice upside with 2 years of eligibility left, but certainly wasn't spectacular

Luke is our guy … Bret is looking to add a backup QB …
Leary really came on strong towards end of the year … I’d guess he is QB2 but they’re gonna bring in some competition …

It seemed that he mentioned Leary in several press conferences late in the season, I was guessing he was doing some good things in practice.

I'm pretty sure UIUC doesn't do anywhere near that.
It was probably around <8% when I was an undergrad here many moons ago.

Not expecting a big time QB to come in the offseason. Leary and bringing in competition only make sense. I would be disappointed if they didn't at least look for depth at this position. BB will go after someone.......

This is true.
And the fact that Illinois is not even in the conversation despite being in a Power 2 conference . . . is disappointing.
