pretty rich hearing control freak, multi-millionaires carping about the landscape tilting more evenly towards the kids/young men who make their livelihood possible
Have yet to see a media report which concludes any coaches have had to reduce their compensation because NIL has shrunk the pool of available cash.

I'm no fan of Kirk Ferentz nor anything Iowa
but

I think the way NIL and unlimited transferring has really been problematic for college sports in general
it simply cany sustain itself the way it is, and I'm not ready for a two or three tier system for major college programs

that said, The recent admission by Rex Chapman that Kentucky offered him $700,000 to stay one more year , back in late 1980's, blew my mind.
Here I figured some of those guys back then were getting $5,000-$10,000 under the table. The thought of them getting $100,000 or more is just hard to accept

He just had a player take 100k and transfer back to the school he came from

There is no loyalty or commitment. Football is worse than basketball because your team can opt out of the post season so they don’t get hurt

Simple fix is players should have to sign contracts with exclusive rights with a school for at least 3 years. NIL terms should be able to be tied to performance and negotiated

If a player wants to break the contract then they should have to sit a year with a few exit criteria like the coach got fired or left.

I don’t doubt he was getting paid nor that it was more than $10k, but like some of the NIL numbers thrown around today I’m skeptical of the $700,000 number. Would anyone even know he had a memoir out except for the big number mentioned in it? Though KY would be in my top 2 or 3 if you told me a school was paying that much back then.

oh, for sure, certain aspects of the current NIL landscape are nuts. we're in Wild, Wild West mode. a coherent and fair set of rules (relatively) is coming, but not soon enough.
